Log

10:00 AM: I’m up.  Made up for that early rise and low amount of sleep I got yesterday.

10:20 AM: Got news updates about Libya and Japan from CNN before actually getting out of bed.

11:30 AM: Listened to the iPod in the now-spacious front room downstairs; last night you’ll recall, I moved the stuff that normally does not belong in thiat room to the basement and Mom’s bedroom.  It’s so much more roomy now; I was feeling claustrophobic in there before.

12:30 PM: Tidied up the kitchen and cleaned the bathroom.  Moved Mom’s raised toilet seat to the basement and reinstalled the old (regular) seat.  However in the process, I snapped one of the nylon bolts (can you believe nylon?), and have no replacement.  So I’ll have to pick up a new comode seat this week.

01:00 PM: Completed the weekly system backups for my blogs.

03:20 PM: So, is it “A, B, and C” or “A, B and C”? I was taught the former (to always use a comma before the final AND) and I prefer that way. The latter is ambiguous, implying a possibly different association between B and C than that between A and B. This may not be what the writer intended by lazily omitting that last comma. Yet so many do this, as though the AND replaces that final comma. No, it does not, IMHO.  Yes, there is that old two-spaces-after-each sentence rule too that seems to have gone obsolete today.  Some word processors even, automatically trim two or more consecutive spaces down to one. I was also taught (in typing class) to put two spaces after the end of a sentence.  Today’s writing rules. Yes, I believe who you work for determines what’s “correct.”

05:05 PM: Yes, I support the bombings of Libya. That tyrant there ought to be stopped. Not only has Gaddafi been a big pain in our butts (Pan Am flight 103, the Gulf of Sidra incident, and TWA Flight 847 et al), but now he’s killing his own people in droves, just like Saddam Hussein. Hopefully, the outcome of this campaign will be the same as that against Hussein. Let freedom reign.

05:20 PM: For supper tonight, I’m having a 16 ounce New York strip steak on the George Foreman with fried green peppers, mushrooms, and onions sautéed in olive oil, cooked by my own hands.  I’ve prepared this very meal several times now over the past couple years, because it’s like a good woman. It never gets old.

07:30 PM: Oh yes.  I certainly can put away a 16 ounce steak, and DID in fact, and man was it GOOD!

Sometimes, my own hands amaze me.  I’m in awe that they could have assisted in the preparation of such a tasty meal.

Now, this is NOT a case of someone narcissistically loving his own body parts.  They’re useful, yes, average, I’d say, and I’m exceedingly thankful to have them.  But their average ness coupled with those occasions when they do above-average things, like prepare that steak, is what’s so intriguing about them.

Indeed I surprise  myself sometimes by discovering heretofore undiscovered abilities, and that I think, is what helps keep me happy, and FULL too.  Yep.

07:40 PM: On the Libya situation: It would have been nice if the coalition could have moved in a couple weeks ago. But building consensus takes time, and without it, we might have met with far greater opposition in Libya had we gone and fought alone. So we were probably wise to wait for sanction from the UNSC, because it’s hard to make progress in a war these days without support from the international community. I just hope that awaiting that consensus didn’t lose the war for those zealous but way outgunned freedom fighters in Libya.

10:02 PM: Posted the   Weekly Backups: 2011-03-19   piece.

10:30 PM: Talked with   [Emmy]   on the phone.

11:45 PM: Facebooked and iPodded and tidied up around the first floor, putting Christmas items, dishes, and clothes away.

12:10 AM: Reviewed today’s traffic stats on my blogs.  The thirty day unique keyword hit count has risen from 705 to 706. Excellent!

12:20 AM: Bed time.  More tomorrow.  Good night now.
