I keep this food and fitness diary to stay aware of just how many calories I’m eating daily, my weight, and blood pressure with the hope that seeing these numbers repeatedly and often decreases the likelihood that I’ll overeat.    It seems to work, so here we go with another day…

Log

09:30 AM: I’m up.  It’s mostly sunny outside, on this day after the first major snowstorm of the 2011-2012 winter season.  Temperatures are in the upper 20s.

09:40 AM: Facebooked for several minutes. Friend count: 596 (unchanged). Fan count: 112 (unchanged).

01:00 PM: Swept, vacuumed, and dusted the first floor here.  For the dusting, I used one of those microfiber cloths that sister Mary Ann bought for me at Sam’s Club.  Very effective, because no chemical agents were required to remove the dust.  The older I get, the more concerned I become about inhaling the fumes that such agents generate.  So I’d rather use nothing except a dry or water-moistened dust cloth.  Now when I have stubborn dirt, such as that found in a bath tub, then I’ll sparingly employ cleaning chemicals.  But most household dirt is easily removed with just water, or, if need be, a mild soap.

02:00 PM: Made a whole-wheat spaghetti lunch with DelGrosso’s meat flavored sauce and Parmesan cheese.  Yum, and I have some leftovers for tomorrow.

03:00 PM: With the weather much drier today than yesterday, I went up to the roof and added additional electrical tape to the junction where the new heater connects to the mains.  It’s probably still not completely water proof.  But I oriented the connection horizontally so that water would not readily flow into it.  At any rate, with the wire nuts and the tape around each individual wire, little if any water will get in, and even if it does, it should not cause a short because each connection has the walls of two wire nuts and lots of tape separating it from the other connections.

04:15 PM: Throughout today, I watched CBS’s   Face The Nation   and NBC’s   Meet The Press   public affairs news TV talk shows.

04:15 PM: Now, I’m watching the Steelers football game against the New England Patriots.

05:15 PM: Nap time here on the love seat, in front of the television.  Back later.

06:15 PM: I’m awake once again.

06:20 PM: I hankered for some Reese’s peanut butter flavors.  So I walked to Sheetz and got some peanut butter cups and a Reese’s Fast Break   candy bar.  Yum.  Now, back to the game. Hey, it is Halloween after all.  :-)

08:00 PM: The Steelers won.

09:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episodes of CBS’s   60 Minutes   weekly news broadcast and   NBC’s Nightly News   via the DVR.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count fell this time, and currently stands at 920, which is down from 932 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

01:00 AM: Watched the   Star Trek   original series episodes:   Dagger of the Mind,   and a little bit of    The Lights of Zetar   via Netflix.  Yes, I know I just saw   The Lights of Zetar   recently. But this is one of my favorite Star Trek episodes, ranking right up there with   The Tholean Web   and   City on the Edge of Forever   in my opinion.  I think it’s the erie organ music that plays whenever the “lights” of Zetar appear.

01:00 AM: I’m headed to bed.  Good night, and I’ll write more tomorrow.

09:50 AM: I’m up.  It’s snowing outside, for the first time in this 2011-2012 winter storm season.  Temperatures are in the low 30s.

10:10 AM: Facebooked for several minutes. Friend count: 596 (up one). Fan count: 112 (unchanged).

04:00 PM: Watched the   Star Trek   original series episodes:   The Galileo Seven,   and   Court Martial   via Netflix.

05:55 PM Noticed that the new gutter de-icing heater I installed yesterday was not working.  So, spent a couple hours troubleshooting that problem, and found that the electricity supply to it in the attic was disconnected (by me, yes, now, I remember).  I did that to prevent the breaker from tripping prior to replacement of the defective heater, so the remaining good heaters could function properly.  You see?  This is why one should not put off pending projects for very long; because one starts forgetting details about the current state of the project, just as I had forgotten that I’d disconnected the power cable to the bad heater.  Oh well.  I’m lessening the incidents of procrastination in my life significantly. Indeed, I put off far less than I’ve ever put off before.  But I still catch myself avoiding those undesirable jobs from time to time.  I suppose this is part of me that still has not fully grown up yet.  Hey, perhaps I’ll be a full-fledged adult by the time I turn sixty years old.  I hope.  :-)

06:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

07:15 PM: I’m awake once again.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].  We listened to tonight’s Penguins hockey game against the   Maple Leafs.  The Pens lost, 4 to 3.   Grrrrrrr.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count fell this time, and currently stands at 932, which is down from 973 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

06:50 AM: I’m up.

07:10 AM: Facebooked for several minutes. Friend count: 595 (unchanged). Fan count: 112 (unchanged).

07:45 AM: Leaving now in the Blair Senior Services van for my colonoscopy.  Back later.

11:00 AM: Sister Jojo picked me up from the place where I had the colonoscopy done, and we heated for Dunkin’ Donuts.  I was eager to eat, as I’ve not eaten any solid food for over 36 hours.

12:00 PM: We’ve finished at Dunkin’ Donuts and are heading now to visit Mom.

01:30 PM: We’re finished with Mom, who is doing very well today, and we’re headed to the Home Depot to buy a replacement roof and gutter de-icing heater, and some additional door mats.

02:00 PM: I’ve returned home.  The colonoscopy went very well.  No polyps or any other anomalies found.  They even gave me some pictures.  No troubles with the anesthesia either.  It knocked me out within seconds of the anesthesiologist lady telling me that I’d be taking a pleasant nap.  Then, when I woke up, it felt just like awakening from an afternoon snooze.  I have no memory of the procedure itself.  Funny though. They told me I should eat more fiber, even though I’m already taking close to 30 grams per day.  I felt pretty lucky though, because once they IV’ed me up and I was waiting my turn to enter the procedure lab, I could hear the doctors talking to other patients who had just finished their screenings.  Unfortunately, in at least three of those cases, polyps WERE found that required biopsy.  Yep, I was truly blessed this time.  I had a good experience, was very well treated by highly professional staff, and upon leaving, wondered why I’d been so nervous about having this done.  I’d certainly recommend it because, in retrospect, it was no big deal at all, and, it’s a great way to catch a common cancer (colorectal cancer) early, when there’s the best chance of erradicating it.

02:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

04:15 PM: Worked the   Gutter Maintenance: 2011   project.  Installed the replacement roof de-icing heater on the west and north roofs located at the south end of the property.  also brought the salt and snow shovel from the shed up here to the porch, and laid out a couple more rubber mats, this time on the east porch.  All doors now have decent mats outside and in, to help keep the dirt in here down, most of which, is tracked in by yours truly.

04:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   Dr. Phil,   called   Pageant Mom and Daughter Compete.

06:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

07:15 PM: I’m awake again.

09:15 AM: I’m up.

09:30 AM: Facebooked for several minutes. Friend count: 595 (up one). Fan count: 112 (unchanged).

10:00 AM: Talked with   [Emmy].  She wanted to wish me well on my prep for the colonoscopy later this week, which I will begin today.

11:30 AM: Consumed 1/2 gallon of apple juice, mixed with Miralax.  This took approximately 80 minutes (1 cup every ten minutes until the entire half gallon was gone).

01:45 PM: Watched the 2011-10-16 and 2011-10-23 episodes of NBC’s   Meet The Press   public affairs news show via the DVR.

02:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

04:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   Dr. Phil,   called   Exes Behaving Badly.

05:30 PM: Leaving now for trick-or-treat night up at sister Jojo’s.  Her husband Ken is waiting outside to drive me there.  Back later.

07:30 PM: Consumed the other 1/2 gallon of apple juice, mixed with Miralax and white grape juice.  Like this morning’s dosing, this took approximately 80 minutes (1 cup every ten minutes until the entire half gallon was gone).

08:00 PM: The official end of trick-or-treat.  Good thing.  It was quite chilly sitting out on the porch.  Now, I’m in Jojo’s living room at her electric fire place.  It creates a nice warm draft (convection).  However, it generates little radiant heat.

09:30 PM: I’m back home.  They had lots of great food up there; everything from sloppy Joes and nacho cheese and chips to candy of many types.  However, as  was in the midst of prep for a colonoscopy tomorrow, I ate none of it.  Difficult to resist eating, and perhaps I should have stayed home because being so close to those great smells tempted me greatly.  But I did not resist.  I kept my mind off the food by watching the kids come by with their candy bags open.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].  She comforted me, as I am a bit nervous about tomorrow’s colonoscopy.  It’s probably not very difficult.  But the anxiety I’m feeling over it probably comes more from a fear of the unknown, than a fear of anything specific about the procedure.  I’ll be alright.  I keep telling myself that.

11:30 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News   via the DVR.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count rose this time, and currently stands at 973, which is up from 966 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.
