Log

10:00 AM: We’re up.

10:15 AM: Facebooked for perhaps ten minutes. Friend count: 616 (unchanged). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

10:20 AM: No workout on the treadmill today.  I feel I need a bit more of a rest.  Plus, the few pounds I’ve picked up over the past couple weeks makes working out noticeably more fatiguing.  I’ll try it again tomorrow.

10:30 AM: I received the network extender that I ordered from eBay, to improve cell phone reception here at Mom’s home.  I’ve gotten numerous complaints lately from guests who say that they can’t place reliable calls while visiting me due to weak cell signal conditions.  I’ve also heard gripes from my sisters that they cannot hear me well when I talk to them on my cell phone from this location.  They say that this box (by Samsung) resembles a mini cell tower that provides a usable signal within a 5000 square foot range.  I’ll try it out and let you know how it works.

12:30 PM: Well, it took the network extender about two hours to acquire the GPS signal that it needs for time and E911 locator services.  But it finally did, after I moved it closer to a south-facing window.  It works great.  It communicates with Verizon’s wireless network via my Internet connection, and allows up to three simultaneous cell phone calls.  I do have a much stronger 1x signal (unfortunately this box does not support EV signals, but that’s okay, as I rarely use my cell phone to surf the Internet).  Calls I’ve made are much clearer, and waiver much less.  Though I’ve placed the box on the 2nd floor, it improves cell reception throughout the house, including in the basement and on the south porch. I’m pretty pleased with it.

02:15 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

03:00 PM: Attempted to restore my computer to earlier restore points, including the earliest restore point that’s on file.  However, it still crashed frequently.  Now to remove the antivirus software.

05:00 PM: Removed the antivirus software from my computer.  So far, it appears to be more stable (fewer blue screens occurring).  But I won’t know for sure whether this improves the situation or not for several days.  But so far, things look better.

06:00 PM: Watched KDKA TV’s local news broadcast at 5:00 PM with   [Emmy].

08:00 PM: Spent time tonight reading through the Samsung network extender manual for my cell phone service.

09:00 PM: Washed, folded, and put away all bedding, and clothes for [Emmy], Mom, and myself.

09:15 PM: [Emmy] began her packing.  She’s going back to Pittsburgh tomorrow.  Weird.  The thought of being by myself once more not only saddens me, but lately, considering the prospect actually frightens me.  I like time alone sometimes.  But not that weeks-on-end type that will likely occur over the winter.  Oh well, I suppose that the telephone and I are going to become good buddies again.

11:00 PM: [Emmy]   is heading to bed.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count for this run is 883, up from 873 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

12:15 AM: I’m heading to bed.  More tomorrow.  Good night.
