09:15 AM: I’m up.

12:00 PM: Mailed in ten bills.  That takes care of all outstanding bills for this month so far.  But tomorrow’s another business day and I’m sure the mailman will bring more bills.

01:30 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

03:00 PM: I’m back up again.

05:00 PM: Talked with Mom.  She’s doing well this weekend, and wanted to make sure we knew about her laser eye surgery appointment this week.  I’ll be accompanying her.

05:30 PM: Watched the movie   Bonnie And Clyde   this afternoon on Netflix.

06:00 PM: Moved Mom’s bed back into her bedroom from the front room.

07:40 PM: Posted the   Tom’s Views –> Movie Review: Bonnie And Clyde   piece.

10:00 PM: Talked with [Emmy].  She was bored today.  Me too.  Well, at least when I was not watching movies.  :-)

11:05 PM: Watched the movie   Attack of the 50 Foot Woman   this evening on Netflix. I’d give this movie a 3 out of 5.

12:10 AM: Reviewed the daily blog stats for my sites.  The 30-day keyword hit count is up to 497 from 475 yesterday.  Great news.  Will probably hit 500 this week.

12:20 AM: Bed time.  Good night.

09:15 AM: I’m now up.

11:15 AM: Mom had low blood count yesterday and required a transfusion. But she seemed in better spirits when Carmen and I visited her. She’s receiving twice-daily physical therapy, and they pressed her again to have a spinal tap. But she’s still refusing. The attending physician told her that they’d probably not be able to help her recover without the tap. Still, no.

01:00 PM: Wrote a new report for Google Analytics, that allows me to see, for the past thirty days, all the keywords (searches) people have run that subsequently directed them to my blogs.  As of today, 250 keywords drove people to my sites.  I’d like to get this up to 500 by summer.

02:00 PM: Cooked some Del Monte sloppy Joes for lunch (a great Manwich alternative by the way), made with near fat-free ground turkey.  In spite of that, they still taste just as good as the ones fashioned from ground beef.

05:20 PM: Stacy’s Mom.   Hmmm. Well, the SONG was much better than the movie.

05:25 PM: Discharge planning has begun. I gave the counselor Mom’s list of long-term care facilities for placement when she called here this afternoon. But I warned her to check with Mom one more time before things are finalized, as Mom may change her mind.

07:30 PM: Watched today’s episodes of   The Young and the Restless   and   The CBS Evening News    on the DVR.

08:10 PM: Cooked   [Emmy]    a scrambled egg on pumpernickel rye sandwich for supper.  I had a bowl of oatmeal with Parmesan cheese and oregano.

09:45 PM: Posted the   Tom’s Love Quest –>Boyhood Foot Fetish   piece.

10:00 PM: Created the   Foot Fetish   category on the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog.

11:15 PM: Looked over Google’s Analytics web site to better understand the statistics they collect about my sites.  Hopefully, this will help me to better optimize my blogs so that more visitors will come, and more people will find what they’re looking for.

12:05 PM: Heading to bed.  Good night, and see you later.   I hope.

  • Vacuum the first floor.  DONE.
  • Wet-wipe the kitchen floor.

10:00 AM: I’m up.  Today I plan on doing the laundry, cleaning up downstairs, and perhaps watching a movie or starting a new book.  Not sure yet which of these (movie or book) I’ll take on. I often dread watching unfamiliar movies because sometimes, it takes most of the movie to realize that I’ve picked  a dud.  The same for books, even more so, because it can take still longer to realize that I’ve wasted much time reading a bad one.  But I’m feeling a bit lucky today, and do have some time to kill.  So why not risk a little?

02:00 PM: Vacuumed the 1st floor.

04:45 PM: Watched the movie   Molly   this afternoon. First, a sad movie, then it lifts up in the middle, then goes sad again at the end. A great example of God giving-eth and then taking-eth away. :-) But that notwithstanding, I’d still highly recommend this movie. If you enjoyed    Rain Man,   you’ll love this.

05:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

06:00 PM: I’m awake again.

06:55 PM: Watched today’s episode of NBC’s   Meet The Press   news show on the DVR.

07:15 PM: Sister Christine called to say that she visited Mom yesterday.  Apparently, her UTI has returned.  Boy, she just can’t catch a break.

07:45 PM: Talking to   [Emmy]   now.  I was thinking that we’d listen to a hockey game tonight.  But it’s around the time of the all-star game, and the Pens aren’t playing again until Tuesday.

10:30 PM: Watched today’s episodes of CBS’s   Face The Nation   and   NBC’s Nightly News   news shows on the DVR.

12:00 AM: Added perhaps 50 more love songs to the   Happy Love Songs   piece.

12:15 AM: Bed time.  Catch you later, and may your own sleep be rejuvenating and restorative.  Good night.

07:15 AM: I’m up.  Today I plan to gather up another bag of rubbish in the cellar, and finish figuring out how much Mom owes me.

10:00 AM: Went through my old clothes in the attic and rounded up some of them to give to Good Will.

11:30 AM: Registered all my web sites with the Alexa search engine in an effort to get more visitors to them.

01:00 PM: Played with Mom’s HD TV a bit, watched a segment of the   Rain Man   movie, and ran a new scan of the available channels.  Looks like a few more digital channels have appeared (10 today, up from 6 at the last scan this past November).

02:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

04:00 PM: Upgraded and registered my new copy of UltraCompare to version 8 from version 7.  I love this program because not only is it great for finding differences between two files, but it also can find duplicate files.  I found many dups in my music library and should be able to save roughly a gigabyte of space by getting rid of them.

05:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   Dr. Phil   on the DVR.

05:20 PM: Heard from Mom.  She’s been moved from the hospital to the nursing facility for some extensive physical therapy.  Hopefully, they can build her strength back up to the point where she can transfer herself with fair ease between wheelchair, bed, toilet, and easy chair.

07:30 PM: Finished watching the   Rain Man   movie from Netflix on Mom’s HD TV.

08:20 PM: Cooked some catfish for supper.  I’m full, hopefully, for the rest of the night.

09:15 PM: Added the 2009-06 edition of Promo Only’s Dance Radio music series to the DJ music library.

11:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   Hawaii Five-0   with   [Emmy]   over the phone.

11:25 PM: Worked on updating my DJ software to accurately record track numbers in my library for EADFF files from Promo Only.  Currently this works correctly for regular CDs but not for the EADFF DVD format m4a files.  I’ve changed the software.  Now tomorrow, I must remove the resulting compilation errors.   After that, this mini project will be done.

11:30 PM: Bed time.  More tomorrow.  So good night.

09:30 AM: We’re up.

10:00 AM: Thought we’d watch the movie: Big  via Internet download to Mom’s television, from Netflix.

12:00 PM: We finished watching the   Big   movie.  The viewing and listening quality for this streaming equaled DVD.  I’m impressed.  But, I wish they had more of the really popular movies available for download.

04:30 PM:  Worked the   Christmas Lighting: 2010   project.  Replaced some failed LED bulbs outside and repaired one string that had bad resistors.  Replaced them, and all lights worked again.

05:30 PM: Sisters Christine and Diane are visiting Mom shortly, and   [Emmy]   and I are accompanying them.  So, we’ll return here later.

07:00 PM: Mom was much better today.  She says though that she’ll probably stay at the hospital for a few more days at least, just to make sure she’s fully hydrated again.  We’re leaving her now, and heading to sister Christine’s for some ham and leftover lasagna.

11:00 PM: We’re back home.

12:00 AM: I worked the   DJ Gig: 2010-12-31   project, just converting more music for addition to the library.

12:30 AM: Bed time.  More tomorrow, and Merry Christmas!  Good night.

05:00 AM: I’m up temporarily.  Mom requires assistance.

05:30 AM: I helped her with all she required, and she’s now in bed.  I’m back to bed for a while longer.  Back later.

09:00 AM: I’m up again.  Now, working the    DJ Gig: 2010-12-31   project, and adding more 2010 music to the library.  Today, I’m converting all September, 2010 music.  I’ll tag these files once all m4a files for 2010 have been converted to mp4.

10:00 AM: Dispensed Mom’s morning meds.  She’s up and about now, buzzing around in the kitchen.

01:30 PM: Carried more old boxes and junk out of the attic and out to the burn pile and garbage cans.

02:00 PM: Dispensed Mom’s lunchtime meds.  Mom’s not feeling well; cramps in stomach.  She seems to be getting worse as the day progresses.  If she does not turn around soon, she may have to go to the hospital.

03:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

03:15 PM: Mom’s friend, Mary Kay, stopped by.  She said that Mom does not look well.  Mom is debating about whether to visit the hospital because she does not want to “ruin” Christmas for the rest of us by introducing any needless drama into this day.  But we told her that if she’s hurting, that no one expects her to suffer just so we can have a good holiday time.

04:00 PM: We decided to call for 911 assistance.

04:30 PM: Mom’s on her way to the hospital to have them do a workup on her blood and other systems.  Hopefully they’ll figure out what’s wrong quickly.  I packed up all of Mom’s daily meds and gave them to the ambulance driver.  The doctors will need these at the hospital so that they can continue her daily medicine schedule — just in case they don’t have all of Mom’s meds in stock.

04:40 PM: Headed up to sister Jojo’s house for the first part of our progressive dinner.

06:15 PM: Jojo served pre-meal snacks, including sweet & sour meatballs, crackers with feta cheese dip, and pop et al.  Yum!  Now, we’re traveling over Brush Mountain to sister Diane’s place.  She’s serving us salads of multiple varieties.

07:15 PM: Now, we’re walking a couple houses up the mountain to sister Christine’s house, where we’ll enjoy the main course of our progressive dinner: lasagna.

08:30 PM: Now leaving with sister Mary Ann and her family, bound for Mom’s house (here), to get the dessert portion of the progressive meal ready.

09:00 PM: Now that some other folks have arrived, sister Mary Ann, her husband, and I are leaving for the hospital to visit Mom.  Back later.

10:10 PM: We visited Mom and we’ve now returned home.  All the guests are still here.

12:15 AM: All guests have now left and I’m cleaning up the kitchen.  [Emmy] is keeping me company while I work.  All wine glasses have now been hand washed and put away, along with the eggnog cups.

12:30 AM: Decided to look into a Netflix membership so we can watch the movie:  It’s A Wonderful Life

01:00 AM: Acquired my Netflix membership and successfully registered Mom’s Internet-ready television as a streaming device.

01:30 AM: Unfortunately, Netflix does not offer the   It’s A Wonderful Life   movie as an instantly viewable download.  They only have it on DVD at this time.  So in order to receive the DVD in the mail sometime next week, I must upgrade my Netflix membership to include DVDs.  I’ll probably do that tomorrow.

02:00 AM: Worked the    DJ Gig: 2010-12-31   throughout the evening when I could get away from the party, preparing more music for tagging and eventual addition to my music library.

02:05 AM: To bed with us.  More tomorrow.  Merry Christmas and good night.  Bye!

06:15 AM: I rose early to put the turkey in the roaster that sister Mary Ann and her husband prepared last evening.

06:20 AM: I’ve placed the turkey in the hot box.  Since this is a 26 pound bird, it should take roughly six hours to cook through.  In the meantime, I’m going back to bed.  Good night.

06:25 AM: Good morning, and happy Thanksgiving! Just put the turkey in the roaster at 325 degrees. So it should be done by 1:00 PM, and we’re planning on serving dinner at 2:00 PM. That should allow plenty of time for trimming and other preps. Yum!

09:30 AM: I’m up, this time for the day.

09:51 AM:   For those of you cooking your turkeys in a roaster this year, you’ll probably be pleased with the results. We’ve done ours in this 18 quart Nesco roaster for the past twelve years and have never been disappointed with either the flavor, moistness, or ease of trimming.

My only complaint about the roaster (and it’s a minor one at that) is that you don’t get the browning effect that you would in a traditional oven. Not that that matters so much really. But the brown makes the bird look a bit more enticing even if it actually does not taste any better. We’ve never learned how to get that deep brown color in the roaster, but the increased tenderness and overall taste makes sacrificing the brown highly worthwhile. Enjoy!

10:30 AM: Helped Mom to the bathroom and gave her her morning meds.  She decided to go back to bed until around 12:30.

12:30 PM: So, in the meantime, I Facebooked and got caught up on my blogging.

01:00 PM: Got Mom from her bed into her wheelchair.   She wants to prepare the white sauce for the cauliflower for this afternoon’s Thanksgiving meal.

01:20 PM: With the exception of Mom being confined to her wheelchair, she’s busily cooking the white sauce and helping out with some of the other dishes in this meal.  I’m glad she could be here for another holiday season.  For a while there a couple months ago, we didn’t think she’d ever be able to come home from the nursing facility.  But here she is, and she seems to be getting stronger.  That’s nice.

02:10 PM: The meal is ready, and we’re only ten minutes late; the goal time was for 2:00 PM.  Like last year, we’re dining in our living room.  However, unlike last year, we’re not using our very large party tables because bringing them and the chairs that go with them down from the attic is a royal pain; particularly since there’s so much stuff in front of them up there these days.  Besides, we only have ten people this time, and our usual dining table is big enough to accomodate that many once we put its extensions in.

03:15 PM: The meal is over.  We’re all stuffed.  Now, we’re putting away the leftovers and cleaning up.  Fortunately, we washed the pots, containers, and utinsels as we went today so that there really isn’t very much that piled up to wash at the end of the meal.

04:30 PM: Then, we all just hung around the living room and Mom’s sitting room, watching football and catching up.  Some of these folks I’ve not seen since last Thanksgiving!  So, there was lots to say.

05:15 PM: Yes, now there’s an idea. Someone on Facebook suggested that you can cook the turkey in the roaster until it’s pretty much done, and then throw it into the oven at 400 degrees or so for a half-hour to get the browning effect.  She said that this is what she was going to do.  So I invited her to let us know how the oven-browning at the end turns out.

05:20 PM: No whole milk. But had half & half and skim. So those eating our white sauce on the cauliflower knew no different. We just mixed in some of each. The meal turned out spectacularly even with the improvisations. Sometimes (though rarely) I even impress myself. :-) I just wish I could have eaten more than one measly plate though. It was sooooo good!

06:00 PM: Sisters Jojo, Diane, and Christine arrived with their families for dessert.  We have pumpkin pies, oatmeal swirl rolls, Breyers vanilla ice cream, cheese cake, and assorted other treats that folks brought but which I did not eat, and so do not remember.

09:30 PM: We continued watching football and conversing with a house full of twenty people in total.  Needless to sau, I don’t think the furnace ran once this evening because all that body heat made additional warmth unnecessary.

09:45 PM: Everyone began leaving.  Eventually, all left except for nephew Grant (Christine’s youngest child).  He decided to spend some time with Mom.

10:30 PM: Grant’s girlfriend arrived, and the two of them kept Mom talking and she really seemed to enjoy herself not only at this moment, but throughout the entire day.

11:55 PM: [Emmy]  and I watched the   Christmas Vacation   movie on the DVD player.  I’ve sure gotten my money’s worth from that DVD because I know I’ve viewed it at least five to ten times by now.

12:00 AM: Grant decided to spend the night here.  So I got him some clean pillows and blankets.

12:05 AM: Throughout the evening, I washed three loads of rags, dish cloths and towels, bath towels, place mats and table cloths.

12:20 AM: Thanks Jojo, for all your assistance. Things really turned out grand. I’m still stuffed, and loving the feeling. Good night.

12:25 AM: I helped Mom to bed and gave her her bedtime meds.  I’m beat as well.   Hey, it’s hard work preparing a thanksgiving dinner.  True, it was most definitely a team effort with sisters Mary Ann and Jojo, Mom, Mary Ann’s husband, and myself the key players.  But there was so much to do that each one of us got played out, just as though we’d prepared the entire meal ourselves.  So, I’m quite bushed and am headed to bed.  Good night and I’ll have more to say tomorrow.  Take care, and happy Thanksgiving.

Movie: Stacy’s Mom

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

[Emmy] and I watched the Stacy’s Mom movie from 2010 tonight on pay-per-view, and I don’t believe it was worth the $3.99 we spent to see it.

Its simple plot was obviously inspired by the Fountains of Wayne song from 2003 (Stacy’s Mom), about a boy who becomes enamored with a school girl friend’s mother, and how he fantasizes about her in a towel while cutting her grass.  But that song never appeared once in this movie.  This was too bad because that tune might have made the movie less boring had they included it.

Further, they did not duplicate the idea of the song precisely in that instead of just one boy interested in the mother, there were four, and the movie focused on the resulting rivalry.  Plus, the mother herself turned out to be a porn star, and while the actress was not bad looking, her looks did not warrant the extreme interest she instilled in these boys.

The acting seemed cheap; no one I remember seeing before and at times the dialog, reminded me of kids reading their parts in a grade-school play. For most of the actors, this film was likely their first big performance, and sadly, this came through clearly.

This flick used excessive foul language and too casually besides.  At times, it felt that they just dubbed in the bad words just for the sake of getting them in; which did nothing to enhance the story line in my opinion.

The movie was approximately 85 minutes in length but could easily have been shortened to 70 minutes with the omission of the virtuosic but cheap antics.  Nope.  Nothing like the Star Trek or Superman movies that so held my attention all the way through.

The scenarios were incredible and in poor taste.  But then, in this movie’s defense, it was labeled as a comedy.  So perhaps it’s wrong of me to expect too much realism I suppose. But still, accepting the notion that school teachers shared porn tapes with their students particularly in this time of heightened sensitivity about minors’ moral corruptions, was impossible for me.  This dispersed any interest I had in the movie when I read the description.  By far, the description was far more intriguing than the movie itself.

I’d rate this show a five out of ten and would recommend against spending the time to watch it.  I’m irritated at having wasted over an hour on it and at our cable company for even offering it!  This picture left me disappointed and wanting, as I came away from it having learning nothing, and having laughed only a little.  For a comedy, the movie was not very funny.

Don’t see this movie!
