08:30 AM: I’m up.

08:45 AM: Facebooked for perhaps ten minutes. Friend count: 627 (unchanged). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

10:30 AM: Leaving now to visit Mom at the nursing home.  Back later.

11:15 AM: I just arrived at the nursing home.  Mom is up already and in fact, greeted me at the elevator.  She wants to arrange flowers.  The local nurseries, funeral homes, churches, and such, donate their old stock flowers to the nursing homes in the area.  Some of the so-skilled residents (like Mom) then arrange them into pretty bouquets.  The staff then places them around the facility to make a more cheerful environment.  Nice.  Mom often mentions how she looks forward to the flowers shipments arriving.

12:30 PM: I got us both a cheese steak sub for lunch at Mom’s favorite Mexican restaurant, and we ate them while watching today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless.

01:30 PM: After that show, we went to the lobby to await my ride home, and just talked about this and that all the while.

02:30 PM: My ride home arrived.  I bade Mom good-bye and told her that I’d come back again to visit her later this week.

03:00 PM: I’m home, and it’s nap time.  Back later.

05:00 PM: I’m awake again.

08:00 PM: In an effort to more evenly distribute the electrical load here at home across all the available circuits as well as to replace the old cloth-style insulated wire, I moved the kitchen chandelier and south porch lights off of the old wiring over to some new circuits I ran upstairs ten years ago.  I actually want to run brand new circuits up there for the first floor overhead lights exclusively so that varying loads on the outlets cause less fluctuation in the brightness that said lights emit.  But temporarily, I’ve tied those lights in with the same circuit that feeds outlets on the 2nd floor.  I’ll move the lights to their final home-circuit whenever I run the new lights-only circuits from the basement up to the second floor.

09:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy]   and we listened to tonight’s Penguins hockey game via Internet radio on her computer.

10:00 PM: Watched tonight’s edition of   NBC’s Nightly News   broadcast via the DVR.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].  She filled me in on the rest of the hockey game.  The Pens beat the Maple Leafs in an overtime shoot-out, 5 to 4.

12:30 AM: Watched some Misc. TV.

12:35 AM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  :-)    Good night.

09:30 AM: I’m up.

09:45 AM: Facebooked for perhaps fifteen minutes. Friend count: 626 (unchanged). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

11:00 AM: Examined the wiring in the basement in order to decide how best to tackle a new upcoming project; getting rid of most of the old cloth-insulated wires and replacing them with current wire technology.  I also want to add more outlets and circuits throughout the first floor.

12:00 PM: Watched today’s extended episode of CBS’s   Face the Nation    news broadcast via the DVR.

12:15 PM: Leaving now with sister Mary Ann to visit Mom and for a bit of shopping for   [Emmy].  Back later.

12:40 PM: We arrived at the nursing home.  Mom was still in bed, saying that she had trouble sleeping last night.  So we just sat alongside her in her bedroom and talked.

01:50 PM: Leaving Mom’s now for Sam’s Club.  Sister Mary Ann has some things to pick up there.  I need nothing however but love walking around in that huge place checking out the many thousands of different items they sell there.  I’m considering going halves on a membership with sister Jojo at some point.

02:15 PM: Then, we stopped at Subway for lunch.

03:00 PM: Finally, we stopped at Bed Bath & Beyond, where I quickly found the soap dispenser for    [Emmy].

03:30 PM: I’m back home.  I bought a   Simply Human   liquid soap dispenser for   [Emmy]   much like the one here in the kitchen that she likes so much.  Hers is a little taller, and unlike mine, comes with an additional holder dish for a small sponge.

04:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

06:00 PM: I’m awake again.

07:10 PM: Watched tonight’s edition of    NBC’s Nightly News   via the DVR.

08:00 PM: Watched some live news about the 2012 general election and the Republican nomination process that is happening right now.  Nothing surprising.   However, the negative rhetoric among the Republican candidates is heating up to feverish levels.  But this too, was not unexpected.  It happens that way every election cycle that I’ve observed over the past few decades.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].

11:10 PM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  Good night.

07:00 AM: I’m up.

07:15 AM: Facebooked for perhaps fifteen minutes. Friend count: 626 (up one). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

08:10 AM: Leaving now with sister Jojo for shopping and visiting Mom.  Back later.

08:30 AM: First, we grabbed some coffee and Dunkin’ Donuts.

09:35 PM: Our first stop was Wal Mart, to try and beat the crowds; although crowds were building as we checked out.  In addition to the usual weekly fruit and milk, I picked up some electrical supplies in preps for wiring upgrades and replacement at home.

10:30 AM: Next, we stopped at Gabriel Brothers, where I found a couple more iPod home wall chargers and iPod data cables for under $5 apiece.

02:00 PM: I’m home and all groceries have been put away, and additional cement for the windows carried down to the basement.

03:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

06:00 PM: I’m up again.  Hmmm.  Guess I did not sleep as well last night as I thought.

06:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

07:10 PM: Watched tonight’s edition of    NBC’s Nightly News   via the DVR.

08:00 PM: Moved shelves, washer, and storage bins around in the basement to prepare for the upgrade of the last two windows there to glass block tomorrow.  I also swept up lots of accumulated dust, dirt, and cobwebs down there to make the work experience this weekend a bit less tedious.

10:00 PM: Watched the 1967 version of the movie   Bedazzled   via Netflix,   starring Dudley Moore, Eleanor Bron, and Raeuel Welch (as lust).  Not bad.  But I think I like the remake of this movie in 2000 better, where the devil was played by a woman.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].

11:10 PM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  :-)    Good night.

08:30 AM: I’m up.

08:45 AM: Facebooked for perhaps ten minutes. Friend count: 624 (up one). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

10:30 AM: Continued efforts to clean up and organize the basement after yesterday’s upgrade of windows 7 and 8 down there.

10:45 AM: Leaving now to visit Mom.  Back later.

11:15 AM: Arrived at the nursing home.  Mo is still in bed.  However, I busied myself putting away her clean clothes that I’d brought with me, and gathering up her dirty ones for laundering later this week.

11:30 AM: Submitted to the nursing home business office, an updated monthly amount that Mom pays for her medical insurance premiums.  Her payment is a bit lower in 2012 than last year, and we’re required to report any changes in her expenditures to the nursing home so that they can calculate the correct amount we must pay for the private portion of Mom’s care.

12:00 PM: Walked to Mom’s favorite Mexican restaurant and picked up a cheese steak sub for me, and two chicken soft tacos with cheese for her.

01:30 PM: We ate lunch together in the first floor lounge while watching    The Young and the Restless.

01:45 PM: Then we stopped off at the gym so Mom could work her arms and hands. However, due to a large crowd of patients already there, we could not stay.  So, we headed for the recreation room.  We’d heard that a batch of flowers arrived that Mom often arranges into smaller pots for placement around the facility.  However, they were out of “wet sponge.”  This is a rigid yet absorbent material that can be pierced with the stems of the flowers, and that will support the flowers (keep them from falling over) while at the same time, providing them water to extend their lives another few days.  Without this material, and with no substitute present, Mom could not arrange the flowers.  Hopefully by the time the next shipment of flowers comes in, they’ll have obtained more of this wet sponge stuff.

02:40 PM: Mom and I then sat in the lobby, gabbing, waiting for my ride home.

02:45 PM: My ride is here.  Heading home.  Back later.

03:05 PM: I’m home, and quite tired.  From all the exertion yesterday replacing basement windows 7 and 8, most of the joints in my lower body are aching.  So I’m taking a nap.  Back later.

06:05 PM: I’m awake again.  Wow!  Long nap.  I hope I’ll sleep okay tonight.

07:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   Dr. Phil,   called   Fix It Or End It Today.

10:00 PM: Watched President Obama’s State of the Union Address.  I’m recording some of the follow-up commentary to watch later this week.  I found this speech to be a great summary of his accomplishments during his presidency so far; so much so that he’s got my vote in November.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].  We listened to the end of tonight’s Penguins hockey game with the St. Louis Blues.  The Penguins won in an overtime shoot-out, 3 to 2.

11:05 PM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  :-)    Good night.

05:00 PM: Replaced basement windows 7 and 8 on the south wall with glass block upgrades.  This took much of today, as window 8 had lots of crumbling mortar around it.  I had to shovel a few buckets of gravel into the gaping holes in the foundation that surfaced when the old window was removed.  I then replaced that old mortar with a fresh new coat of a way more modern mixture.

07:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

08:20 AM: Worked on the blogs a bit.

08:30 AM: Going out shopping now with sister Jojo and to visit Mom.  Back later.

09:45 AM: We’re finished shopping at Wal Mart. Now we’re driving to Duncansville to pick up some new eyeglasses I have waiting out there.

10:30 AM: I got my eyeglasses and they fit and look great.  They work quiet well also.  I got three pairs this time.  Two pairs are identical, each with bifocal lenses.  The third pair has no bifocals, and are for distance vision only.  I’ll use these for television viewing so I’m not constantly having to look around the bifocal to clearly see the screen.   Now, we’re going to Denny’s for breakfast.

11:30 AM: We’ve finished breakfast.  I enjoyed a healthy omelet, pancakes, fruit cup, and hot chocolate.  Yum!  Now, we’re heading to Sam’s Club, where Trey is to pick up some new contact lenses.  Now, we’re heading to Dunkin’ Donuts to pick up a couple lemon donuts for Mom and a coffee for me.

11:45 AM: Now, we’re stopping at Subway to get a sandwich for Mom that she requested.

11:50 AM: We’ve just arrived at the nursing home.  Mom was still sleeping.  However, she quickly and fully awoke upon seeing Jojo, Trey, and myself.

01:00 PM: Mom felt quite well today and was in a pretty good mood.  We all enjoyed the visit, including Mom.

01:45 PM: I’m back home, and groceries have been put away.

03:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

05:30 PM: I’m awake again.

06:15 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

07:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   Dr. Phil,   called   Cruise Ship Disaster   via the DVR.

10:30 PM: Spent the evening putting back the shelves in front of windows 4, 5, and 6 (the windows I replaced yesterday) back, and organizing their contents.  I also worked on repairing a broken gliding rocking chair down there.  I’ll have to get a drill out tomorrow and some thick screws, to fasten the parts together so they’ll hold together.  This chair keeps falling apart on me.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].

11:10 PM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  Good night.

08:30 AM: I’m up.

08:50 AM: Facebooked for a bit. Friend count: 622 (unchanged). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

10:35 AM: Wrapped up my numerous audio and video cables that were sort of strewn about in the cellar prior to the basement windows replacement project.  They’re neatly rolled and stacked in the northwest corner of the basement (near the power box and just beneath window #3).

10:45 AM: Leaving now to pay a visit to Mom.  Back later.

11:30 AM: Arrived at Mom’s nursing home.  Mom was sleeping when I got there.  So I busied myself putting away her clean clothes and loading up the laundry bag I brought with me, with her dirty ones.

11:45 AM: The morning nurse came in to dress Mom.  So I’m heading to our favority Mexican restaurant to pick up a cheese steak sub for myself.  Then on the way back, I’ll stop off at Mom’s favorite hot dog shop and buy a hot dog and fries for Mom.

12:30 PM: I’m back at the home.  Getting lunch took a bit more time than usual today, because I had to wait for the cheese steak sub, and then, also, the hot dog shop for Mom’s order.  But it all worked out, as this gave Mom plenty of time to get dressed.

12:50 PM: We at lunch in the first floor lounge.

01:30 PM: While there, we watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless.

02:25 PM: Then, Mom and I went down to the lobby to wait for my van home.  We just chit-chatted until it came.

02:30 PM: I’m leaving for home now.

03:00 PM: I’m home.

04:05 PM: Published a few new posts to my blogs, including this one.

04:10 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

06:00 PM: I’m awake again.

06:30 PM: Steamed some fresh green beans in the wok, which appears to steam them twice as fast as the dedicated steamer I have.  However, one should keep an eye on the water level in the bottom of the wok, as the water boils away rather quickly.

07:15 PM: Watched the 2011-01-17 episode of   Dr. Phil,   called   Teen Trends: Killer Numbers   via the DVR.

08:20 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News   via the DVR.

10:00 PM: Unloaded the shelves in front of windows 4, 5, and 6 in the basement, in preps to replace them tomorrow.

08:45 AM: I’m up.

09:00 AM: Facebooked for perhaps ten minutes. Friend count: 619 (down one). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

10:40 AM: Leaving now to visit Mom at the nursing home.  Back later.

11:05 AM: I arrived at the nursing home.  However, Mom is not in her bed.  Investigating.

11:06 AM: A nurse, seeing me entering Mom’s room, told me that Mom had a urologist appointment this morning and that she did not know when Mom would return. Oh, great.  But then, another nurse heard our discussion, and came over to say that Mom was sitting in the social area, just beside the nurse’s station.  So, after I unpacked her clean clothes and loaded up her dirty ones into the laundry bag I’d brought with me, I went there to join her.

11:30 AM: I then visited the nursing home business office to settle up with them for this month, and to give them some papers that detail a pension increase that Mom started receiving this month.  The ladies were polite and cordial as usual, and after finishing the business with them, I headed back upstairs to join Mother.

11:35 AM: Mom said her appointment went well.  No surprises, but no real improvement either.  However, the doctor did order more labs be drawn over the next day, to further check Mom’s progress at fighting these infections that have plagued her for at least the past year.

12:00 PM: We then watched the rest of   The Price Is Right   while catching up with each other’s lives over the past few days.

12:05 PM: [Emmy]   called to say that she mailed my Victor Stream adapter back to me.  Readers may remember that she inadvertently packed my adapter for her return trip to Pittsburgh, thinking that it was hers.

12:25 PM: Mom and I ordered lunch from a nearby Chinese restaurant, called   Eastern Express    I think.  Not bad, but I like the place near   [Emmy's]   apartment in Pittsburgh better.  I got the chicken with cashew nuts dish, and Mom had the General Tso Chicken.  Mine was a bit bland, while Mom’s was more than a bit spicy.  However, we enjoyed the lunch; though Mom ate less than half of hers.

01:30 PM: Mom and I then watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the plasma television in the 2nd floor alcove.

02:15 PM: Then, we went to the gym.  They’ve renewed their efforts with Mom to see if they can build up her strength and confidence in her legs to allow her to stand.  She really wants to come home, and appears willing now to work a bit harder to restore some of her mobility.  Unfortunately, I doubt that she’ll be able to stick with it once the exercises become really difficult.  But there’s always hope I suppose.

03:00 PM: After the gym, we went to the dining room; Mom wanted to play bingo.  So I waited there with her for my ride.

03:10 PM: My ride home arrived.

03:45 PM: I’m home, and still feeling wiped out from yesterday’s treadmill workout.  However, I like that feeling, as it’s an acute reminder that I indeed accomplished some muscle growth.  It’s a pleasant sort of tired feeling, even though my thighs certainly hurt.

04:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of  Dr. Phil,   called   Psychic Investigations.

04:45 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

06:30 PM: I’m awake again.

07:30 PM: Processed today’s mail.

08:00 PM: Just got off the phone with my medical insurance provider.  Tried to pay my January and February premiums.  However, due to a system glitch, they could not process the payment.  So I suppose I’ll either have to wait a week or two for them to straighten it out, or just pay the invoice when it arrives.  I’ll probably do the latter.

10:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of    NBC’s Nightly News    and last night’s episode of NBC’s    Rock Center    news shows via the DVR.

11:00 PM: Talked to   [Emmy].

11:20 PM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  :-)    Good night.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count for this run is 954, down from 956 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

12:30 AM: Had trouble sleeping.  So I’m getting back up and will read about installing glass block windows for traffic noise reduction in my basement.

01:55 AM: Watched several videos and read a few articles on how to install glass blocks into an existing window.  Seems pretty straight forward, with the keyword being   straight.  I’ll have to depend on my eyes and ruler to assure proper alignment of the blocks.  Still though, this doesn’t seem too bad.  I’ll visit Lowe’s later this week to see the sorts of blocks and associated supplies that they sell.

02:00 AM: Okay, I’m sufficiently tired to try to sleep again.  Good night.

  • Notice from my medical insurance provider that due to some sort of error, my monthly premiums are no longer being withheld.  I must call them to reinstate the withholding practice.

Log

05:00 AM: I’m awake and cannot return to sleep.  So I might as well get up and do something productive rather than just laying in bed, feeling bored and accomplishing nothing.

07:15 AM: I paid some bills and got caught up on some email.  But sleepiness has returned.  So I’m gong back to bed for a bit.  Back later.

09:45 AM: We’re up.  I didn’t sleep very well last night; my bedroom grew quite warm overnight.  Maybe I should place fewer covers on my bed.

10:00 AM: Facebooked for perhaps ten minutes. Friend count: 619 (unchanged). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

12:00 PM: Walked to Sheetz to withdraw some dollars and grab a hot chocolate for   [Emmy],  while she busies herself packing.

01:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR with [Emmy].

02:00 PM: Sister Jojo arrived.  She’s taking us shopping, to visit Mom, and to drop   [Emmy]   off at the train back to Pittsburgh.  Back later.

02:45 PM: First, we visited Wal Mart.  Really crowded compared to when we visit early on Friday morning.  But I got everything I need for two weeks (Jojo cannot take me next Friday).

03:30 PM: Next, we went to Dunkin’ Donuts for lunch.  We got the egg, bacon, and cheese on croissant sandwiches and some decaffeinated coffee.

04:30 PM: Next, we visited Mom for about an hour.  Then, Jojo waited with Mom while   [Emmy]   and I walked to the Altoona train station.

05:10 PM: [Emmy's]   train arrived.  Far less crowded than when she got it home on December 27th.  Anyway, the conductors helped her on and I asked them to stow her bags very close to her so that they’d be easier to locate when they arrive at Pittsburgh.  They smiled and agreed.

05:15 PM: Heading back to the nursing home, to continue with the visit.

06:05 PM: Jojo and I visited further with Mom.  Her supper came, and she ate perhaps half a plate full of food.  Mom seemed to grow tired after she ate.  So we decided to head home.  Besides, I must record tonight’s Penguins hockey game for   [Emmy].

06:20 PM: I’m home.

06:30 PM: Started the recorder.

08:00 PM: Took down, repaired, and stored some more Christmas lights.

08:50 PM: Received a call from   [Emmy].  She’s home.

10:00 PM: Watched last night’s and tonight’s episodes of   NBC’s Nightly News   broadcast via the DVR.

10:45 PM: The Penguins lost to the New York Rangers tonight, 3 to 1.

10:50 PM: Posted the recording of tonight’s hockey game for   [Emmy]   to download and listen to on her Victor Reader Stream or her NLS DTB player.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count for this run is 927, up from 923 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

01:20 AM: Watched the next four episodes of  Space Academy   via my DVD player.

12:10 AM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  :-)    Good night.
