09:45 AM: I’m up.

11:00 AM: Bagan the weekly system backups of my blogs.

12:00 PM: Backups are finished.  Details   here.

01:00 PM: Posted the   Weekly Backups: 2011-06-04   piece.

01:10 PM: Posted the   Weekly Backups: 2011-06-11   piece.

01:20 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

03:00 PM: I’m awake again.

09:05 PM: Posted the   Tom’s Views –> Edy’s Maxx Mint Brownie Ice Cream Review   piece.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].

12:00 PM: Added approximately 100 GB of old time radio shows to my music / media library throughout today.

12:05 AM: Reviewed the daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count is down a little again, and now stands at  1297; down from 1302 yesterday.  I hate those days when this number falls.  But perhaps next week, once people return to work, we’ll set new keyword traffic records once again.  1302 is the number to beat, and the next big goal: 1500.

12:15 AM: Bed time.  More tomorrow.  Good night.

Today’s Activities

  • Shower.  DONE.
  • Cat duty.  DONE.

Log

10:30 AM: I’m up.

12:30 PM: [Emmy]   asked me to install a towel hanger ring in her bathroom.  So I completed that.  The first hole I drilled however, I ran smack dab into the power box on the other side of the wall.  So she had to pick a different location.  From then on, I encountered no further problems.

02:00 PM: [Emmy]   and I decided to head out to Pizza Pronto for a veggie pizza.  Back later.

03:00 PM: I couldn’t believe finding an open hair styling place on Sunday.  But   [Emmy]   told me of this place down the street from the pizza shop called  SuperCUTS.  She thought they might be open.  So we walked the two or three blocks to there, and sure enough, there were girls inside busily working.  So I went in and got my holiday haircut.  They finished me in way less than ten minutes.  So I felt a bit short-changed on the relaxing feelings that a nice haircut produces.  But they did a good job.  Nowadays, I request that they use a #2 clipper on the back and sides, and scissor-cut the top.  It looks good, it’s easy to maintain, and I can go three months without another haircut without my hair becoming too unruly.

03:30 PM: We ran into some friends on Centre Ave and chatted with them for perhaps 20 minutes.  But though there wasn’t much wind to speak of, outside grew rather chilly and quickly too.  So we left them and rapidly walked back to   [Emmy's]   apartment.

04:15 PM: We’re back home.  I’m iPodding a bit.

05:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

06:00 PM: I’m back up again; although I didn’t actually sleep much.  So instead, I listened to an encore presentation of Casey Kasem’s   American Top 40   radio show on Internet radio via my iPod Touch.  They played the countdown from November 3rd, 1979.

09:00 PM: Then we watched television; a little bit of football and CBS’s   60 Minutes   news show.

10:00 PM: [Emmy]  brushed my hair again tonight.  I should hire her as permanent staff; she’s really good at it.

10:30 PM: Bed time.  More tomorrow.  Take care.

08:05 AM: Worked the   Bing Site Submissions   project, which I requested that pages from all my blogs be added to the Bing search engine index.

09:55 AM: Watched today’s episode of    Pittsburgh Today Live

10:00 AM:  Worked the   Yahoo Site Submissions   project, in which I requested that pages from all my blogs be added to the   Yahoo!   search engine index.

10:10 AM: Heading back to bed for a couple hours.

12:30 PM I’m back up again.

01:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless.

04:00 PM Went   shopping.

06:00 PM: Submitted my blog sites to several more search engines.

07:30 PM: Watched tonight’s episodes of   NBC’s Nightly News    and    The CBS Evening News.

08:15 PM: Fixed all remaining posts on the    Tom’s Love Quest  blog that had title tags longer than 61 characters.  The software changes I made last week fixed all but two posts, through exclusion of redundant words in the tag.  However the final two were still a little too long, but no longer.  All excessively long titles have been shortened in this blog now.  The next task is to fix any titles that have illegal characters in them.

09:15 PM: Removed all known illegal characters from thirty-two posts on the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog.  Next, I’ll tackle the removal of stop words from all titles on that blog.  This will take some time, as there have been 232 problems reported of this type.

10:15 PM: Located and purchased some blank cartridges, mailers, and USB cable accessories on today’s   Internet Shopping Trip, for the NLS DTB player.

12:00 AM: Listened to a couple episodes of the   CBS Radio Mystery Theater   with   [Emmy].

12:05 AM: Okay, going to bed.  Have a great night and I’ll see you back out here later on.  Take care.

Hard Drive Upgrades: 2010

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

My current music library external disk drives are over 90% full now.  This, and the fact that one of them just failed has convinced me that it’s time to upgrade.  So, I’ve been hardware shopping today, online.

After perusing Amazon and eBay, it looks like the 1.5 TB external drives are currently the best buy.  Go above this in storage size, and the cost per GB rises significantly.  Go below this, and I’ll have to upgrade again too soon, as I have over 93000 old time radio shows (~1 TB) to add to the library as well.

I’ve therefore selected the Seagate Desk FreeAgent 1.5 TB, USB 2.0  external drives.  These drives have a thin profile, which means that they’ll fit easily into my laptop cases that I take on DJ gigs.  Thus, I have ordered three of these now, and will get the others in February, 2010, once I’ve played with them a little and really gotten comfortable with them as good replacements for my current hardware.

I’ll track this upgrade until I have at least six of the bigger drives, fully populated with my media library.  Follow the progress of this effort in the attached comments.

Updating Emmy: 2006-01-10

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

Dear [Emmy],

Nope, didn’t lose anymore [weight]. I was still 167.5 as of this morning. More should drop off tomorrow because I haven’t eaten yet today, and yesterday, I had a steak salad and one bowl of “Drape Nuts.” I’ll eat as lightly today, perhaps having a bowl of veggie soup for supper and a few Clementines.

Did you listen to any more mysteries when you couldn’t sleep? They’re a great way to get educated on word usage, common cultural themes, and some of them even enact the classic literature. E.G. Marshall will tell you in each episode when it was made from a classic work.

The cold is a little better; but not much.

Yep. I saw Y ‘n R. Looks like they got Sheila.

No, I give people my full attention when talking on the phone. No music, news, radio, or other activity to be heard in the background, except for perhaps the whirr of a fan. I don’t like it when people appear to be divided between me and a media program when talking to them.

Well, I’ve just been reading a bit today. No other work because I still feel bad.

Talk to you tonight,
Tom

Thanks much, Rich.

Your check for $40 is in the mail as well. Looking forward to the discs.
