08:05 AM: I’m up.

09:05 AM: Wow, I thought I was doing my body a favor by eating the pecan-crusted chicken salad at TGI Friday’s restaurant on Friday, that was truly delicious but deceptively healthy-looking.  In fact, 750 calories for the whole thing isn’t TOO bad, especially if that’s all you eat.  But 50 grams of fat?  Not so good.  Perhaps I’d best split this with someone next time.  :-)   Any takers?

10:30 AM: Posted the   Tom’s Views –> Hot Sauce Mom and Child Abuse   piece.

12:30 PM: Added content to  the   Tom’s Views –> Hot Sauce Mom and Child Abuse   piece, and a comment or two as well.

02:00 PM: iPodded with You Tube and the YouTube app for my iPod Touch, and found a few videos to put in my favorites list.  Boy, I really missed the MTV boat 30 years ago.

02:10 PM: Do YOU know the Muffin Man? If so, then please note that he does NOT live in Drury Lane but on East Pleasant Valley Blvd, at least for today, because for today, HE is ME! I have here a bag of Aunt Jemima self-rising white corn meal mix, and am about to stir up and bake a batch of one of my favorite delicacies: corn muffins. Mmmmmmmm! Fire trucks? Stand ready.

02:15 PM: But first, I must clean out the muffin pan, as it’s still dirty from last week’s batch, just like my keyboard with that sticking O key. :-)   Yea, I should clean that keyboard, ’cause it’s full of muffin crumbs.

02:50 PM: The muffins are baking now (about two minutes in the oven so far) and already smell wonderful.

03:05 PM: I just took the muffins out of the oven.  They look golden brown and firm.  No smoke today.  :-)

03:55 PM: The corn muffin recipe called for vegetable shortening or oil.  But I used extra virgin olive oil instead, and man? if you think that olive oil on popcorn tastes great, then you’d very much enjoy these muffins.  The olive flavor was more subdued in the muffins than in popcorn, perhaps due to the baking.  But it still made a positive contribution to their overall taste in my opinion, by providing a slight Italian twist.  Next time, I think I’ll try folding some Parmesan cheese into the batter before baking.  I bet that would be yummy too.

04:15 PM: Talked with   [Emmy]   a bit.  The Penguins are playing the Chicago Blackhawks this afternoon.   But I’m getting sleepy so I’m not going to listen to the whole game.  In fact right now, I’m off for a nap.  Back later.

07:15 PM: I’m awake again.  The Pens lost to the Blackhawks, 2 to 1 in a shootout.

09:45 PM: Talked with [Emmy].   She’s still feeling pretty sick with that cold she got yesterday.  I hate to see her ill.

10:10 PM: Talking to a friend on Facebook about the Voice of America (VOA) short wave radio station: When I lived in Ohio, I often listened to VOA on 15.580 Mhz. from the Greenville site.  That was in 1989, and back then,  the large number of frequencies around the world on which VOA could be heard astounded me, not to mention all the power consumed by those transmitters.  I’d have sworn that I could pick up most of them.  However, the Internet has brought with it a big whole set of new, more energy and cost efficient options.  In fact, I no longer even own a short wave radio.   Short wave has given way to WiFi.

10:15 PM: VOA is but a small shadow of what it once was in the 2oth century.  In fact, the Bethany, Ohio transmitter site we were discussing, that has been closed for perhaps fifteen years, is now being reopened as a Voice of America museum.

10:25 PM: Had to sign a Wii Release form at Mom’s new home on Friday, which stipulates that we agree to hold her nursing facility blameless, should she injure herself playing the Wii games up there.  Shouldn’t be a problem since Mom can barely move, much less play Wii.  Sad.  But at least this is one less thing we have to worry about.

11:15 PM: Watched the 2011-02-04   Dr. Phil   episode:  Abducted By Their Mother.  This covers a heartbreaking true story of a family in which the mother, for reasons unexplained, covertly removed herself and the three children (two boys and a baby girl) from the family home while the husband was off at work, and then she hid out for fifteen years in England, until the FBI learned of her whereabouts.  Good episode. The boys have been reunited with their father, but due to the girl’s young age when abducted, and that she was probably taught to dislike her father to boot, she has not yet welcomed her dad back into her life.

03:00 AM: Added more content to as well as rearranged the   Tom’s Views –> My New Maytag Bravos Washing Machine   piece for completeness and clarity.

03:05 AM: Bound for bed.  So good night, and stay tuned for more writings in less than twelve hours.  Take care.
