08:20 AM: I’m up.

09:15 AM: Facebooked for a bit. Friend count: 622 (unchanged). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

10:25 AM: Put things back on the shelves that I had removed the other day in preps for basement window #3 replacement.  That replacement is now complete and went well.  So I figured I’d reorganize the shelf items before putting them back.

10:30 AM: Leaving now for the Red Cross donor center in the Orchard shopping plaza.  I’m giving blood today.  Back later.

11:00 AM: Arrived at Orchard Plaza.  However, since the Red Cross is not yet open, I’m heading for Eat ‘n’ Park for lunch.

11:45 AM: I’ve finished lunch and have walked over to the Odd Lots store, to shop a bit before my appointment at Red Cross.

12:20 PM: Finished shopping at Odd Lots.  B0ught a few hammers to place around the house in places where I typically use them for minor household repairs.  Also found some cheap diagonal pliers for the same purpose.

12:30 PM: I’m now at Red Cross.  No wait.  They’re not too busy today so they’re taking me right away.

01:10 PM: Blood donation complete.  My blood pressure is still high for my liking (140 / 86).  My next doctors appointment to follow up on this is in March.  Otherwise, all was well.  My hemoglobin count this time was 14.9.  I think I’ll walk back over to Odd Lots for more shopping until my ride home gets here.

02:30 PM: Just left Odd Lots but found nothing I really need this time around.  The van is here as well.  So I’m heading home.

03:00 PM: I’m home.

04:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

05:15 PM: Spent more time in the basement cleaning up after the first three window replacements.

05:20 PM: Leaving now with brother-in-law Richard for the state store and Lowe’s.  I’m buying the rest of the glass block basement window replacements tonight, along with the required three 50-pound bags of glass block mortar.  Back later.

06:30 PM: First stop: The PA state store.  I’ve decided to relax my alcohol ban slightly, and buy a few bottles to keep around here for when friends visit.  I also wanted to buy Rich a few bottles of American Honey bourbon as payment for his driving me tonight.

07:45 PM: Next, we went to Lowe’s.  We picked up six of the seven windows needed.  The seventh one is a special order item, because it must have a dryer vent built in.  That made it $40 more expensive than the regular glass block windows.  But it’s worth it.

08:00 PM: I’m home.  I showed Richard the three windows I’ve installed already, and he said they look quite good.  He also gave me some tips for how to more easily replace the remaining ones, showed me some advanced techniques for spreading the mortar with a trowel, and how to smooth the mortar over broken brick to make for a smooth-appearing window sill.  Then, Rich went home, saying he had to get to bed early due to the past couple days of extremely early rising for him (4:30 AM).

10:00 PM: I carried the new glass block windows and mortar down to the basement and continued organizing the shelves as well as pondering how best to unload the shelf in front of window #4, which I hope to replace this coming Thursday.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].

11:40 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of    NBC’s Nightly News    broadcast via the DVR.

11:55 PM: Washed, dried, folded, and put away laundry throughout the day.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count for this run is 951, up from 958 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

01:15 AM: Watched the next four episodes of    Space Academy   via my DVD player, called    Life Begins at 300,   The Cheat,   My Favorite Marcia,    and   Space Hookey.

01:20 AM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  :-)    Good night.

08:00 AM: I’m up.

10:00 AM: Watched and took notes from the 2011-04-04   Dr. Phil   episode:   Born To Rage?

10:10 AM: Posted the   Dr. Phil Episode Notes: Born To Rage?   piece.

10:20 AM: Posted the   Dr. Phil Episode Notes: Betrayed By Blood   piece.

11:00 AM: Vacuumed the first floor and cleaned up a dried cat mess on the living room rug.  Hmmmm.  It actually may have been easier to clean once it dried.  Now understand that I did not purposely wait for it to dry before cleaning it.  But I don’t get into that part of the living room much, and since it did not emit any odor, I had no idea that there was a mess, until I happened upon it this morning.  Perhaps I should make daily rounds through the house, looking for just this sort of thing.

12:15 PM: Watched and took notes for the 2011-04-05   Dr. Phil   episode:  Betrayed By Blood.

01:30 PM: Watched the 2011-04-03 episode of NBC’s   Meet The Press    news talk show via the DVR.

02:50 PM: Sister Mary Ann and her girls stopped in for a visit, bearing Meadows ice cream for me.  That was sweet.

03:40 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

06:00 PM: Added complete show notes to the   Dr. Phil Episode Notes: Betrayed By Blood   piece.

09:00 PM: Heard from   [Emmy].  However, the phone connection was so choppy that I could hardly understand her.  She also said that her Internet connection had become quite slow this evening.  So, again, she’s calling Comcast.  She may have to switch back to Verizon in order to permanently correct this semi-monthly recurring problem. That’s a shame too, because when it works properly, it works very well.

09:20 PM: Added complete shownotes to the    Dr. Phil Episode Notes: Born To Rage?   piece.

10:20 PM: Talked with   [Emmy]   via her cell phone tonight.  Unfortunately, her land line is still acting up.   She called her telephone service provider about the problem, and they suggested that she try resetting her modem.  But she was unable to locate that only-slightly-larger-than-pin-sized hole, through which one inserts a pen or stylus point, to actuate the reset button inside.  So she’ll have to get sighted help tomorrow to find that port.  Additionally, they’re sending a technician out to check the cable lines and signals tomorrow afternoon.  They suggested that they only have so much control over the quality of her service since   [Emmy]   lives in an apartment building, and due to that, it’s possible that unauthorized personnel are tampering with the cable service wires.  Hopefully, that’s not it.  But this problem recurs a couple times per month, and it’s really getting old actually.  Now that Verizon is offering a pretty good discount to switch to them, that may be   [Emmy's]   best choice.  We’ll see.

11:15 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News   broadcast via the DVR.

12:15 AM: Watched the 2011-04-03 episode of CBS’s    60 Minutes    news show via the DVR.

12:30 AM: Headed to bed now.  So good night, sleep well, and I hope you’ll come back tomorrow.  Take care.

11:00 AM: We’re up.

02:00 PM: spent much of this afternoon taking down some of the outdoor Christmas lights, per the   Christmas Lighting: 2010   project.

02:30 PM: Headed to Pink’s place to troubleshoot her new Internet-ready television.  She’s having trouble getting the Internet apps to work, and needs help getting her Netflix membership set up.  Back later.

04:00 PM: [Pink] took her television back to the place where she bought it, hoping they could exchange it.  However, they plugged it in and experienced no problems connecting it to their wireless network.  So there must be something peculiar about   [Pink's]   set up.  So I had her bring her TV here to see if it would connect to my wireless netork.  It did, and worked well too.

05:00 PM: So, we took my WiFi access point up to  [Pink's]   place to see if it would connect up there as reliably as it did here.  But upon plugging in her TV, we noticed that her wireless network was now showing up in the available networks list on the TV.  When we tried it the first time around, her network did not appear and we couldn’t even get a connection when manually entering this network name.  But at this point, the television had started working correctly; though I had no idea what I did to make that happen.  Sometimes, just moving cables and appliances around fixes them.  Go figure!

05:45 PM: I helped   [Pink]   set up her Netflix membership, and she was thrilled to download and watch a bit of her first Internet-obtained movie.

06:00 PM: Heading   shopping   at Wal Mart.  [Emmy] unfortunately, had to stay home, as there wasn’t enough room in the car to take her.  But I’ll be sure to pick up everything she needs for this week.  She’s gong to keep busy here, listening to the   CBS Radio Mystery Theater   on her iPod.

07:30 PM: I’m back home and all groceries have been put away.

09:30 PM: Continued taking down and repairing Christmas lights while we have good weather.  I’m hoping to get them all down while the weather is nice.  We enjoyed a sunny afternoon today with temperatures in the mid 40s; a great day to un-decorate from the 2010 holiday season.

11:30 PM: We watched the movie: It’s A Wonderful Life.  Very good.

12:00 AM: Bed time.  More tomorrow.  Good night.

06:15 AM: I rose early to put the turkey in the roaster that sister Mary Ann and her husband prepared last evening.

06:20 AM: I’ve placed the turkey in the hot box.  Since this is a 26 pound bird, it should take roughly six hours to cook through.  In the meantime, I’m going back to bed.  Good night.

06:25 AM: Good morning, and happy Thanksgiving! Just put the turkey in the roaster at 325 degrees. So it should be done by 1:00 PM, and we’re planning on serving dinner at 2:00 PM. That should allow plenty of time for trimming and other preps. Yum!

09:30 AM: I’m up, this time for the day.

09:51 AM:   For those of you cooking your turkeys in a roaster this year, you’ll probably be pleased with the results. We’ve done ours in this 18 quart Nesco roaster for the past twelve years and have never been disappointed with either the flavor, moistness, or ease of trimming.

My only complaint about the roaster (and it’s a minor one at that) is that you don’t get the browning effect that you would in a traditional oven. Not that that matters so much really. But the brown makes the bird look a bit more enticing even if it actually does not taste any better. We’ve never learned how to get that deep brown color in the roaster, but the increased tenderness and overall taste makes sacrificing the brown highly worthwhile. Enjoy!

10:30 AM: Helped Mom to the bathroom and gave her her morning meds.  She decided to go back to bed until around 12:30.

12:30 PM: So, in the meantime, I Facebooked and got caught up on my blogging.

01:00 PM: Got Mom from her bed into her wheelchair.   She wants to prepare the white sauce for the cauliflower for this afternoon’s Thanksgiving meal.

01:20 PM: With the exception of Mom being confined to her wheelchair, she’s busily cooking the white sauce and helping out with some of the other dishes in this meal.  I’m glad she could be here for another holiday season.  For a while there a couple months ago, we didn’t think she’d ever be able to come home from the nursing facility.  But here she is, and she seems to be getting stronger.  That’s nice.

02:10 PM: The meal is ready, and we’re only ten minutes late; the goal time was for 2:00 PM.  Like last year, we’re dining in our living room.  However, unlike last year, we’re not using our very large party tables because bringing them and the chairs that go with them down from the attic is a royal pain; particularly since there’s so much stuff in front of them up there these days.  Besides, we only have ten people this time, and our usual dining table is big enough to accomodate that many once we put its extensions in.

03:15 PM: The meal is over.  We’re all stuffed.  Now, we’re putting away the leftovers and cleaning up.  Fortunately, we washed the pots, containers, and utinsels as we went today so that there really isn’t very much that piled up to wash at the end of the meal.

04:30 PM: Then, we all just hung around the living room and Mom’s sitting room, watching football and catching up.  Some of these folks I’ve not seen since last Thanksgiving!  So, there was lots to say.

05:15 PM: Yes, now there’s an idea. Someone on Facebook suggested that you can cook the turkey in the roaster until it’s pretty much done, and then throw it into the oven at 400 degrees or so for a half-hour to get the browning effect.  She said that this is what she was going to do.  So I invited her to let us know how the oven-browning at the end turns out.

05:20 PM: No whole milk. But had half & half and skim. So those eating our white sauce on the cauliflower knew no different. We just mixed in some of each. The meal turned out spectacularly even with the improvisations. Sometimes (though rarely) I even impress myself. :-) I just wish I could have eaten more than one measly plate though. It was sooooo good!

06:00 PM: Sisters Jojo, Diane, and Christine arrived with their families for dessert.  We have pumpkin pies, oatmeal swirl rolls, Breyers vanilla ice cream, cheese cake, and assorted other treats that folks brought but which I did not eat, and so do not remember.

09:30 PM: We continued watching football and conversing with a house full of twenty people in total.  Needless to sau, I don’t think the furnace ran once this evening because all that body heat made additional warmth unnecessary.

09:45 PM: Everyone began leaving.  Eventually, all left except for nephew Grant (Christine’s youngest child).  He decided to spend some time with Mom.

10:30 PM: Grant’s girlfriend arrived, and the two of them kept Mom talking and she really seemed to enjoy herself not only at this moment, but throughout the entire day.

11:55 PM: [Emmy]  and I watched the   Christmas Vacation   movie on the DVD player.  I’ve sure gotten my money’s worth from that DVD because I know I’ve viewed it at least five to ten times by now.

12:00 AM: Grant decided to spend the night here.  So I got him some clean pillows and blankets.

12:05 AM: Throughout the evening, I washed three loads of rags, dish cloths and towels, bath towels, place mats and table cloths.

12:20 AM: Thanks Jojo, for all your assistance. Things really turned out grand. I’m still stuffed, and loving the feeling. Good night.

12:25 AM: I helped Mom to bed and gave her her bedtime meds.  I’m beat as well.   Hey, it’s hard work preparing a thanksgiving dinner.  True, it was most definitely a team effort with sisters Mary Ann and Jojo, Mom, Mary Ann’s husband, and myself the key players.  But there was so much to do that each one of us got played out, just as though we’d prepared the entire meal ourselves.  So, I’m quite bushed and am headed to bed.  Good night and I’ll have more to say tomorrow.  Take care, and happy Thanksgiving.

08:05 AM: I’m up.

09:00 AM: Talked with [Emmy].  Due to [Mentat] visiting, I didn’t call [Emmy] at our usual talk time in the evening.  But we made up for that this morning.  Now, she’s off watching KDKA TV’s   Pittsburgh Today Live   show.

10:00 AM: Sister Jojo just called to say that she would not be able to take me shopping today.  She and her entire family got colds this week.  But perhaps we can go this weekend if she feels better.  That’s okay.  [Mentat] and I can keep busy without shopping.  :-)

11:20 AM: Blogged a bit and [Mentat] and I sat here in the office, talking, catching up, and so on for the past hour.  We’re brewing some tea now; he’s drinking chamomile and I’m having spearmint.

12:30 PM: Edited some CD audio files, splicing multiple tracks together for [Mentat].  I used the Audacity audio file editor.

03:10 PM: Watched the 2010-06-27 and 2010-07-11 episodes of   NBC’s Meet The Press   news show on the DVR with [Mentat].

02:10 PM: Worked the   Laptop Shuts Off: 2010-07-15   project and Facebooked.

05:15 PM: Watched   Star Trek: The Next Generation   episodes   The Best of Both Worlds, Parts 1 and 2   on the DVD player.

06:30 PM: Watching   NBC’s Nightly News   live tonight.

08:30 PM: Watched the   Star Trek Deep Space Nine   episode:   The Visitor.  Excellent!

11:00 PM: Watched the Star Trek Next Generation movie: Generations, where and obsessed doctor in his quest to reach his utopia, jeopardizes the lives of millions of people.  This was William Shatner’s final appearance as captain Kirk.  In fact, Kirk and Picard join forces to defeat the villanous paradise seeker.

12:00 AM: We checked out a little of   CNN’s AC 360;   oil spill coverage mostly.

12:15 AM: But the day is now done.  We thought we’d hear fireworks from DelGrosso park from the Bellwood community picnic earlier this night.  But outside was quiet.  Perhaps the air was too thick.  :-)   Anyway, take care and enjoy the rest of the time left before dawn comes again.  Good night.

07:30 AM: I’m up.

08:30 AM: Started the pork roast cooking, with the netting intact as per advice I received on Facebook yesterday.  Since this is a significantly larger roast than I usually cook, I’m allowing at least ten hours for it to completely cook in the crock pot on the high heat setting.

09:15 AM: Well, Sheetz had no mushroom soup. But I do have some canned mushrooms. So I’ll just throw a couple of those into this pork roast in leu of the soup, and perhaps add a little whole milk as the cooking nears completion — if I get bold enough that is. I wouldn’t want to ruin such a big piece of meat with untested ingredients. :-)

09:45 AM: Added the July through August, 2010 issues of Promo Only’s Country Radio music series to my DJ library.

01:00 PM: Dusted and vacuumed the bedroom.

01:55 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

02:10 PM: Worked the   Laptop Shuts Off: 2010-07-15   project and Facebooked

02:20 PM: [Mentat]  just arrived; driven here by his sister.  We’re headed to the pavilion to catch up.

03:45 PM: [Mentat] says that he and his girlfriend are back together and that his plans to move to Ohio to live with her have been reinstated.  I had hoped that he’d remain in this area, but realize that his happiness is paramount.  If he needs to move there to maximize his happiness, then that’s what he must do, and I support him though I’m said to see him leave.

04:50 PM: It got pretty warm as the sun began shining into the western side of the pavilion.  So we’re going back up to the house to check on the roast and check out a little TV.

06:00 PM: We had supper — just the roast and vegetables, and were both pleased with how it turned out.  We’re going to make cat fish for supper tomorrow.

08:00 PM: We watched   Family Guy Presents Blue Harvest;   a spoof on Star Wars that was rather funny.

11:15 PM: Watched tonight episodes of   NBC’s Nightly News   and   CNN’s AC 360   on the DVR.  We also took in the   Star Trek: The Next Generation   episode called   Q Who   from season two.  This is the episode that first introduces the borg beings.  Great TV.

11:50 PM:  The roast really turned out well, and I have a few meals worth of leftovers too.  The mushrooms were a pleasantly flavorful touch, and a little added ham bouillon made the dish just a touch more porky.  The only shock was that the DONE button popped out four hours before we were ready to eat supper.  Surprising that the roast cooked so quickly in a crock pot.  In fact, not really trusting the button, I continued cooking the meat on low heat for the interim, and It still tasted great; not overcooked.  Then, we topped it all of with Breyer’s chocolate ice cream for dessert.  Yum.  Seriously.  YUM!  I’m already looking forward to the leftovers this weekend.  :-)

12:00 PM: Bed time.  More tomorrow.  Good night.

05:00 PM: Finished supper.  The pork roast tasted wonderful as usual.   However, I separated  [Emmy's]  portion before adding the seasoning.  She says that they put too much salt in the spice packet included with the roast for her taste.  Hey, no problem.  That’s just more seasoning for me.  I’m not concerned about eating salt, as I rarely exceed the RDA of sodium (2400 MG).

05:40 PM: [Emmy] is watching the 5:00 edition of KDKA TV’s local news, and I’m here blogging.

07:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.  Vicki and Billy discovered that they did indeed get married in yesterday’s episode.  Then, Victor and Jack found it out as well, when Jack went to the airport to meet Billy, and Victor also went there to pick up Victoria.  Boy, did the sparks fly.  Ashley accepted Tucker’s offer to head up Jabot Cosmetics, and Malcolm offered Devon a job, which he accepted, but which Neil disapproves of.  Good stuff.

09:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News,  and last night’s episode of   CBS’s 60 Minutes   news show on the DVR.

10:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of  CNN’s Lary King Live.  The topic: Do cell phones really cause brain cancer?

11:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   CNN’s AC 360.  The story I found most interesting was the one that talked about the study of childrens’ views on skin color, and which skin colors they find smarter, more attractive, ugly, bad, and so on.  Most children, even black youngsters, found lighter colors preferable.  This surprised me, not so much that whites would give better ratings to whites, but that blacks also did it.  Apparently the so-called  white bias extends to the black child population as well.

12:40 AM: Watched a couple season five episodes of   I Dream of Jeannie.  Now, it’s bed time.  Good night, and see you tomorrow.
