09:00 AM: We’re up.

09:15 AM: Facebooked for perhaps ten minutes. Friend count: 616 (unchanged). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

10:20 AM: Worked out on the treadmill for 21 minutes, walking and jogging approximately 1.28 miles and burning off roughly 170 calories, for walk / workout 112 in 2011.

01:00 PM: Helped   [Emmy]   finish her packing; she’s going home later this afternoon.

02:15 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

04:00 PM: Nephew Garrett arrived to drive   [Emmy]   and me to the train station.  Back later.

05:10 PM: [Emmy]   just boarded the westbound Pennsylvanian train for Pittsburgh.  The coaches appear quite crowded tonight, which surprised me.  I figured that most people would stay put until after New Years Day. But apparently, they had other ideas.

06:00 PM: After we dropped [Emmy]   at the train, Garrett and I visited a local sports shop to buy some long underwear.  Garrett bought a set of the very lightest yet most insulating type (similar to spandex).  I bought two sets of the more basic cotton type in large size.

06:20 PM: I’m home.

06:30 PM: Recording tonight’s Penguins hockey game for   [Emmy],  as she’ll not be able to listen to much of it on the train.  I’ll email her the file later tonight, once the game finishes.

07:40 PM: Watched the 2011-12-25, 2011-12-26, and 2011-12-27 episodes of   NBC’s Nightly News   broadcast via the DVR.

09:00 PM: Watched this past Sunday’s episodes of NBC’s   Meet The Press   and CBS’s   Face The Nation    weekly news broadcasts via the DVR.

11:00 PM: I’m heading to bed.  Good night and do stop back tomorrow for more content.  :-)    Good night.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count for this run is 904, up from 883 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

Today’s Activities

  • Shower. DONE.

Log

04:50 AM: We’re up.  We showered last night before leaving home so we’d be ready at 5:30 AM this morning, to board the bus sister Mary Ann arranged, that will take us to New York City today.

05:30 AM: We had some trouble sleeping, perhaps owing to the fact that we’re not in my home, where we’re both much more used to sleeping.  But our anticipation and excitement for today’s trip is helping us overcome any tiredness we might have otherwise felt due to a lack of sleep last night.  We’re boarding the bus now.  Brrrrr.  It’s cold out, and there’s no sign yet of daylight in the moon-lit sky.

08:45 AM: We pulled over at a rest stop, whose name I do not know, in order to stretch our legs and take care of any business of nature any of us 35 day-trippers might have.  Much longer lines snaked around the interior of the visitor center at the rest stop, much longer than the line to the mens room.  I would notice this phenomenon at every public rest room I stopped at this day, both in New York and in PA.

09:00 AM: We’re back on the road again.

11:30 AM: We arrived in New York City, at 8th Ave. and 48th street.  This is very close to the Disney store, Time Square, and Radio City Music Hall, which we’ll be taking in a Rockette show at 4:30 PM: this afternoon.

12:00 PM: We visited Time Square, saw where they drop the New Years ball, and saw the Nasdaq headquarters and numerous other memorable businesses.

12:35 PM: We toured the Disney store.  The crowds are intense; not just in the store, but all over the side walks as well.  This complicated staying together with the rest of our party.  So, [Emmy]   and I decided to go off on our own.  We wanted to see the 9/11 memorial.  So we grabbed a cab and asked him to take us there.

01:00 PM: We’ve arrived at the 9/11 memorial.  The new Freedom Tower, which replaces the north and south towers of the World Trade Center that were destroyed on 9/11/2001, is still under construction.  So there was no shortage of bustling activity all around the site.

01:15 PM: We learned unfortunately that we could not enter the interior of the memorial, where the fountain and name plaques are, because we did not pre register.  Further, security regulations are quite tight and we worried that with our back packs, they might make us surrender them.  With so many people there, we were concerned that they’d be lost.  So, next time we come, we’ll leave the back packs at home and make sure we pre register.

02:00 PM: However, we could enter the 9/11 memorial visitor center, where we picked up some pamphlets about the freedom tower and about 9/11 itself.  We also examined what appeared to be a bronze mural on the wall facing the freedom tower just outside the visitor center.  This mural detailed events on 9/11, including the burning towers, firemen rigging up hoses and other equipment, and the police directing rescue operations.  With the pictures raised,   [Emmy]   could feel them and better appreciate their messages.

02:05 PM: We hailed a cab to Rockefeller Center, to see the traditional Christmas tree that they put up there every year.

02:25 PM: We arrived at Rockefeller Center and gazed at that beautiful and very large tree for several minutes.  I took a few pictures of it with my cell phone camera.

02:40 PM: We then headed for Radio City Music Hall to hang out until the Rockettes Christmas Show began at 4:30 PM.  But as soon as we arrived, we learned of the  “Stage Door” tour that we could take, that details the history of this hall, its hydraulic stage that can be elevated as well as turned.  We decided to go on this tour since we had some time to kill.

04:00 PM: The Radio City Music Hall stage door tour just ended. We got to listen to a Rockette answer questions about what it takes to become as well as remain a Rockette.  No seniority there.  No matter how experienced, every lady must re audition every year to retain her position in the company.  They also showed a video of how the stage is elevated and turned.  Neat.  Plus, they talked about the recent 70 million dollar restoration of the hall.  Quite informative.

04:15 PM: After the tour finished, we headed to our reserved seats in the hall to await the start of the Christmas show.  This is where we reunited with sister Mary Ann and her family.

04:30 PM: The show began, right on schedule.

05:55 PM: The show just ended.  Spectacular.  Perfectly flawless music orchestra and no errors were made by the dancers that I could see.  While I might have found this sort of theater boring as a kid, I’m awed by it today because of the level of perfection it displays.  I better appreciate today just how much it takes to put a high-quality performance like this one together.  What a wonderful way to stoke the Christmas spirits than to spend a day during the season in New York City, taking in a Christmas show in one of the most world renowned theaters.  Sweet.

06:45 PM: We hung out in one of the lobbies of the music hall then and enjoyed a virgin Rockettini drink.  It had quite a fruity flavor that did not decrease as the ice in the glass melted.  I bet that the ice was probably not water, as it did not dilute the flavor of the drink over time.  Perhaps they made this ice by freezing some of the liquid in the drink.

06:45 PM: We left Radio City Music Hall, bound for the Rockefeller Christmas tree.  We wanted to see it again, but in the dark this time.

07:15 PM: We passed by the NBC studios on the way to the tree, which is where they broadcast NBC’s   Nightly News   from. The tree was as gorgeous at night as much as it was this afternoon when we saw it the first time.  Perhaps this second visit would be considered redundant by some.  But I found it equally as enjoyable as the first nonetheless.

07:20 PM: We then headed to the pick-up point for our bus back to State College.

07:45 PM: The bus arrived a few minutes late due to the heavy traffic on this busiest Christmas shopping day in NYC.  We had to board quickly, as the driver could not remain stopped for long without being fined on that busy 8th Ave.  The trip home begins.

08:50 PM: We arrived at some Mall in New Jersey I think, to get some supper at its food court.

09:20 PM: [Emmy]   and I got some veggie pizza and we had some cookies for dessert that sister Mary Ann brought with her.  We’re back on the bus once again, speeding toward State College and sister Mary Ann’s place.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count for this run is 812, up from 810 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

12:30 AM: We arrived at sister Mary Ann’s.  We had originally planned on spending this night as we did last.  However, our driver needed to get home.  So we packed up our belongings in Mary Ann’s basement, and began the half-hour trip back to Altoona.

01:00 AM: We’re home!  We’re so so tired.  Heading to bed now.  More tomorrow.  Good night.

09:30 AM: We’re up.

09:40 AM: Facebooked for several minutes. Friend count: 603 (up two). Fan count: 114 (unchanged).

02:15 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.

03:30 PM: Heated up some left-overs for lunch for the two of us, and we spent the past hour or so talking lightly and saying good-bye.

03:45 PM: Leaving now to accompany   [Emmy]   to the train, for her return trip to Pittsburgh.  Two new friends are driving us.

05:10 PM: [Emmy's]   train was on time and just left, and we’re now driving home.

05:30 PM: I’m home, all by myself.  Our friends commented in a complimentary fashion on my Christmas lights.  They like all that blue.

07:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   Dr. Phil   via the DVR,   called   Marriage Meltdown, Part 3.

07:50 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News   via the DVR.

08:30 PM: Set up my artificial holiday tree in the living room on the west wall, right beside the television.  I’ve got the lights on it working and have placed a few decorations (ribbons, bells, and balls)  on it.

10:30 PM: Recorded tonight’s hockey game on the Victor Reader Stream for   [Emmy],   as she was unable to listen to the game while traveling.  I just sat the Stream next to my Internet radio in a quiet room, using its built-in microphone.  The recording came out surprisingly good for this sort of equipment configuration.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].  She made it home, safe and sound, and has unpacked.  She has a sleep study appointment tomorrow, which is why she had to return to Pittsburgh today.  Hopefully, they’ll approve her for the third phase of this study, where she actually begins to receive, for certain, the drug that they’re studying.

11:15 PM: Uploaded the recording of the game and sent an URL to it to   [Emmy].  I put it into a zip file first and uploaded that, as doing this with audio file as the original .3gp format caused download problems for Internet Explorer.  Internet Explorer would attempt to play the .3gp file when following the URL to this file (undesirable behavior), while zipping the file caused the file download window to pop up (preferred behavior).  At any rate, once I determined this, I zipped up the file and uploaded it to my public storage site and sent an URL to it to   [Emmy].  All done.

11:20 PM: I’m heading to bed.  More tomorrow.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count for this run is 791, down from 792 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

07:50 AM: I’m up.  It’s, dreary again outside this morning.

07:55 AM: But in spite of the drizzle, the hauler guy returned just now to clear the rest of the junk out of the junk pile, remove that pile of shingles I accrued when I replaced the yellow shed roof in 2009, and to salvage some wood laying around here.

08:15 AM: Facebooked a bit.  Friend count: 582 (up one).  Fan count: 111.

09:55 AM: The hauler guy has finished loading up his truck and is leaving.  He says that he’ll call me with the total cost later today.

11:20 AM: Worked on the bills and started the laundry.

11:30 AM: I thought I was going to Lowe’s today to shop around for storm windows.  However for some reason, my ride had no record of a scheduled pick-up for me today.  Hmmmm.  I thought I scheduled that a few days ago.  Oh well, I guess I’ll not be “window shopping” today, as they refuse to schedule same-day pickups.

03:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR, for the first time in high definition.  Yep, the upgraded TV was indeed worth the price.

05:00 PM: Heard from the hauler guy.  Today’s hauling bill is $90.  Sending that to him in tomorrow’s mail.

05:05 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

06:20 PM: I’m awake again.

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].

11:45 PM: Played with some of the apps on the new TV, and watched a bit more of the modern-day version of Alice in Wonderland that I grew too tired to finish last night.

12:00 PM: Bed time.  More tomorrow.  Good night.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count rose this time, and currently stands at 1043; up from 1035 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

  • Shower. DONE.
  • Cat duty.  DONE.  Sister Jojo is performing this task for me while I’m vacationing in Pittsburgh.

Log

07:30 AM: All three of us are up.

08:00 AM: Put the air bed away and folded up and stowed the blankets as well.  Stripped   [Emmy's]  bed.

10:00 AM: Cooked and cleaned up from a buckwheat pancake breakfast for the three of us.  We enjoyed some pure maple syrup with them as well.  Quite tasty, and all who ate agreed.  :-)

10:55 AM: Our taxi arrived.  So we’re leaving   [Emmy's]   and heading for the Megabus stop at the convention center downtown.

12:15 PM: Stood at the Megabus stop with [Mentat].  We talked about our respective relationships and aspirations.  He’s looking forward to coming home for New Years.

12:20 PM: I’m leaving the convention center bus stop now, to walk the few blocks to the Amtrak train station.  Mostly sunny and warm today.

12:30 PM: I reached the train station.

01:00 PM: Ran into a couple of the folks who also attended the fun day social yesterday.  They’re also riding the train, but way further than I.  They’re getting off at Paioli.  I was unable to sit with them, as the Altoona folks (myself) must sit near the rear of the train.

03:00 PM: Took an hour-long nap.  The stopping at Johnstown woke me up.  The train is moderately crowded today, but lots of empty seats.  I nearly always am able to sit by myself.

03:50 PM: Just after leaving Johnstown, we got behind a couple of slow-moving freight trains that will delay our arrival in Altoona significantly.

04:25 PM: We’re rounding the Horshoe Curve now.

04:40 PM: We’ve finally reached Altoona.  Sister Jojo got tired of waiting. So she drove on over to visit Mom.  She communicated this to me via my cell phone.  I told her to go ahead and that I’d walk over once I got to Altoona.

04:45 PM: I’ve arrived at Mom’s nursing home.  Mom is in bed.  So we visited with her in her room.  Though in bed, she was quite awake.  I gathered up all her dirty clothes into a laundry bag.  I’ll wash them and take them back up to her later this week.

06:00 PM: I’m home.

08:00 PM: Watched all pending episodes of   The Young and the Restless   via the DVR.  I got a couple episodes behind due to the Pittsburgh trip.

10:15 AM: Facebooked a bit.  Friend count: 582 (down one).  Fan count: 111 (unchanged).

11:00 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].  She says that she really enjoyed herself this weekend.  Good night.

12:05 AM: The daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count fell this time, and currently stands at 1042; down from 1048 at last check.  The record high for this dimension remains at 1788.  The next goal: 2000.

04:00 AM: I’m up.

05:30 AM: Got caught up on my blogging in the   Tom’s Diary   blog.  I was a bit lax yesterday.

07:30 AM: Posted the   Tom’s Views –> Chef’s Choice Cordless Electric Kettle 677-2 (6772) Review   piece.

08:00 AM: Purr meow.  P-M-U-E-R-O-R-W!   I love when cats meow at the same time they’re purring, like they’re not sure which they really want to do.  So, they do both.  The purring modulates the meow with a shaking, shivery sound, and the meow gives the purring a squeaky, happy edge that always seems to make me smile.  Neat.

11:30 AM: Leaving now for the Pittsburgh Amtrak train station to head back to Altoona from   [Emmy's]   this afternoon.

12:00 PM: Arrived at the train station and got some Reese’s peanut butter cups for lunch.

01:00 PM: Borded the train.  Pretty crowded today.  But I still got my window seat in the middle of the Altoona car.

01:20 PM: The train departed on time.

03:00 PM: I thought I’d be more tired since I got relatively little sleep last night.  But I found myself wide awake for all but about twenty minutes of the trip so far.  So I mostly iPodded and peered out my window at “houses, farms, and fields” whizzing by, not to mention cities, towns, and forests.

03:50 PM: The train arrived in Altoona, on time.

04:30 PM: I’m home once again.

04:45 PM: All unpacking is done and suitcase put away.  I’ll have a couple loads of laundry to do this week.

07:00 PM: Started a CHKDSK operation on this, my home computer, to look for and repair potential problems on my primary hard drive; problems that may have caused this computer to hang while I was copying folders around from    [Emmy's]   place last week.

09:30 PM: Skimmed the 2011-06-05, 2011-06-12, and 2011-06-19 rerun episodes of CBS’s   60 Minutes   weekly news show via the DVR, and also deleted all the shows recorded during my absence that I’ve seen already while visiting   [Emmy].

10:40 PM: Talked with   [Emmy].  I think I’ll lay down now, until the daily stats come in from my blogs.  Good night.

12:05 AM: Reviewed the daily traffic stats from yesterday for my blogs.  The monthly keyword hit count is down a bit again, and now stands at  1359; down from 1367 yesterday.  The record high remains 1388 key phrases therefore.  Next goal: 1500.

11:00 AM: Arranged my rides to and from the train stations tomorrow, when I return to Altoona.

12:00 PM: Spent the morning catching up a news, Facebooking, organizing my personal mail folders, and other similar, miscellaneous tasks.

01:35 PM: Walked down to our favorite Indian restaurant   on Craig St. with   [Emmy]   for lots of that buffet-style Indian food.

02:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

03:00 PM: We’re awake again.

07:00 PM: Re organized and divided   [Emmy's]   email files for easier use and backup.

07:20 PM: Walking now, down to a nearby store for some mint ice cream.  Back later.

08:00 PM: We’re back at   [Emmy's]   place.

03:20 AM: Mom called for help.

03:40 AM: She’s back in her bed, and I’m going back to mine.  Good night.

08:15 AM: I’m up.

08:45 AM: Sister Jojo arrived to help Mom out of bed into her sitting room chair.

09:30 AM: Leaving now for my dental appointment.  Sister Jojo is driving me.  Back later.

12:45 PM: I’m back.  Today’s dental visit cost $92, for cleaning and examination.  The desk attendant at the dentist’s office drove me home.  The doctor examined the tooth that’s been most sensitive to cold — my top right 12 year-old moler, and says that it’s not dying and still very much alive and that it shows no signs of fracture.  Due to the grinding I do, even with the mouth guard, my teeth are bound to be sensitive, and the enamel erosion that’s prevalent throughout my mouth also contributes to cold beverages causing me pain.  I can opt either to (ordered by cheapest to most expensive procedure):

  1. Leave this tooth untreated,
  2. Have it crowned,
  3. Have its roots and nerves removed, and then have it crowned.

Since money is a premium right now, I’m choosing option 1 for now.  We’ll see how it feels a month or so into 2011, and if it continues to get worse, I’ll probably go with option 3, which could cost as much as $1600.  I’ll have to save for that one.  :-)

12:50 PM: Mom still looks comfortable in her chair and needs nothing at the moment.  She’s just napping at present.

02:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

02:45 PM: To make more room for Mom to wheel around the bathroom, I removed the standard toilet seat, that prevented the portable pottie from moving back against the commode tank as far as possible.  However, this adjustment only bought us an inch or two more of wiggle room.  But that may be enough to ease the difficulty of getting a wheelchair through the door and past the toilet just inside.

02:50 PM: Now, I’m preparing my treasurer’s report for the upcoming   WPSBC Alumni Association   board meeting this week.

04:30 PM: The treasurer’s report is finished.  Yes!  Now as a reward, it’s nap time.  Back later.

05:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   Dr. Phil.  However,   [Emmy]   has requested that I preserve this one for her as someone called to chat with her while it was airing.  No problem,   [Emmy].   I’ll save it for you.

06:30 PM: I helped Mom to the kitchen, where she cooked some poached eggs with pumpernickel toast for her supper.  We visited there for a bit, and then headed into the living room to watch the   CBS Evening News.

06:55 PM: I had to cut out a little early to head up here to my office and dial into the   WPSBC Alumni Association   board meeting.

07:30 PM: I gave my treasurer’s report, and the rest of the board flagged no problems with it.  Great!  Then, we dealt with a ver short list of old and new business so that by 7:20 or so, the formal meeting had sort of degenerated into a free-for-all conversation.  Normally, these meetings last an hour.  But since we finished everything prior to 7:30, and since someone else had scheduled a teleconference AT 7:30, we decided to end our meeting a half-hour early.

08:00 PM: Talked with sister Jojo.  She called to check how my tooth was doing.  I think I’ll call the dentist who does the root canals and get an estimate anyway.  Jojo thought that I should not wait for the holidays to pass to get that done, so as to avoid having to tolerate the pain throughout the Christmas season.  That makes sense too, because it does ache periodically.  In fact, it hurts as I write this.  So, I’ll call his office tomorrow.

11:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   Hawaii Five-0    with   [Emmy]   on the phone.

11:35 PM: Gave Mom her night meds and helped her to bed.  Now, [Emmy] and I are watching   David Letterman; Scott Caan (Danno) from the new   Hawaii Five-0 is to be a guest.  Since that show is our favorite prime-time crime show this year, we figured we’d be remiss as fans if we did not watch Caan on Letterman.

12:30 AM: Okay, we’re done with TV and everything else for today.  More tomorrow.  Good night.

04:15 PM: [Mentat's] sister just came.  She’s driving me to the Amtrak train station in Tyrone, where I’ll board the west-bound train to Pittsburgh and the   WPSBC Alumni Association   convention this weekend.  I’ll return home early should Mom’s condition degrade.  But she seems relatively stable at the moment and we have noted some slight improvements even.  So I believe that she’ll be alright while I’m gone.

04:55 PM: We just climbed onto the train and got seats together.  I sat closest to the window this time; I enjoy those ever-changing sights whizzing by; everything to farms and forests to city lights and roads and buildings taller than the trees.  Our coach is well air-conditioned as it usually is.

06:30 PM: We’ve passed Johnstown and so far, we’ve gabbed the whole trip about everything from [Mentat's] upcoming move to Ohio to my plans to buy Mom’s house.  It’s nice chatting with [Mentat].   I wish we did it more.  But if we did that, it might lose some of its appeal.  So maybe I don’t wish this.  I don’t know.  :-)

08:30 PM: I’m here a [Emmy's] now.  [Mentat] and I rode the train over and now we’re just gabbing while getting ready to head to Pizza Pronto for supper.

10:00 PM: We’re back at [Emmy's].  Mmmmm.  The pizza was spectacular.  Now we’re watching   CNN’s AC 360   news show and whipping up a bowl of raspberry cream cheese Jello.  I brought three Corelleware bowls with me so [Emmy] can make this Jello dish by herself.  She bought Jello and cream cheese at her shopping trip earlier today.

11:45 PM: After watching   KDKA TV’s Local News at 11:00 PM, we played some music on [Emmy's] computer from the group   Shiny Toy Guns; their version of the  Major Tom   song, originally done by   Peter Schilling.  We found that they also did a remake of  Blue Oyster Cult‘s hit   I’m Burnin’ For You.  Both remakes we like.  Both of these make great repeater songs.

12:00 AM: We’re heading to bed now that I’ve got blankets laid out on [Emmy's] living room floor for she and I, and she’s put new sheets on her bed for [Mentat].  So enjoy your night and I’ll write more as time permits tomorrow and over the weekend.  Good night.

Log

09:00 AM: I’m up.

09:50 AM: Heard from [Emmy].  She’s at her dentist’s now, after having arrived a half hour early; she hates being late and so leaves her place to bus it there earlier than perhaps is necessary.  But that Negley bus is often so crowded and the route it travels is so traffic-laden, that it’s hard to predict just how long a particular trip will take.  So she heads out early; just to be safe.

11:00 AM: Nephew Garrett arrived a little while ago to drive Mom to an eye specialist in Johnstown, PA. Apparently, her right eye has developed some issues; though I have no details on Mom’s specific concerns yet.

12:00 PM:  Added more linkage in the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog.  The Goal: All posts need a ‘Related Posts’ section that lists links to other similar or relevant content in that blog.

01:40 PM: Worked the   Facebook Suspension: 2010-06-15    resolution.

03:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

03:15 PM: Nap time.

05:00 PM: I’m back up.

07:10 PM: Just walked down to the pavilion and nibbled a few ripe mulberries.  They’re moderately sweet this year; though I’ve seen sweeter back in 2008.  There are still many more to come that at this moment are still very green.  So we’ve not yet seen them peak this year yet.

08:10 PM: Just finished blogging and accounting for all pending shopping receipts.  See the shopping trip posts   here.  Now, I can finally balance the checking accounts.  :-)

08:40 PM: Watched President Obama’s speech about all the government is doing to recover the gulf region from the oil spill.  I’m satisfied that he’s doing what’s reasonable to move things along down there and to provide ample pressure to BP, so they compensate the people who lost their business incomes along those shores.

08:50 PM: Gathered up and took out the garbage; it’s garbage night.  You know?  :-)

09:50 PM: Talked with [Emmy] on the phone for an hour.  Didn’t discuss much, really.  Sometimes, it’s just nice to know that some one’s on the other end of the line; even when they’re not saying much.

11:40 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News   on the DVR.

12:15 AM: Headed to bed. So have a great night, and I’ll write again soon.  Take care.
